Hello,
Does anybody have the latest passenger numbers for the Emirates Air Line? I live local and am shocked just how quiet this has become even on days like today.
I can't help but wonder what this will be like in say 5 years time.

The general trend is downwards year on year and the only time you get a blip is during school holidays and fine weekends. A monstrous waste of public money.

On the old style TfL website you could be able to view them there, I haven't looked on the new version to see if it is still the same. Member Snoggle would probably be the one to tell you properly where to find them.

And as by magic we are typing both at the same time. Having been on it twice, it is one of those things you do once every few years as the views are not the best of the center of London because Canary Wharf is in the way. It would have been better built closer to the center of London or be longer and have stations along the way.
In Hong Kong they have a cable car that takes you from Lantau MTR station to a newish village they have built near the Big Buddha. This cable car you get good views of the airport and 'rural' Hong Kong (or just mountains and hills covered in vegetation) and is about 100 million times better than EAL!

I am not good with heights so haven't used the Dangleway and don't think I ever will. The Lantau cable car does actually have a proper transport function although there are New Lantau Bus routes which will get people from Tung Chung further into Lantau. It clearly is also a big tourist draw as is the Big Buddha. When I was last there the queues were enormous for the cable car but they seem well used to handling the crowds. They also have the complete terror option (for me anyway) of cable cars with glass floors (Crystal Cabins) so you can see through the floor as you climb. Eeeeek!

I've only been on the Cable Car once in 2012 and it was really scary especially when you get to the middle of the Thames and it just stops then starts going again. But I do think its a waste of money as IMO it was purely created to transport people between North Greenwich (O2) and Custom House (the ExCel Centre) during the Olympics and it was well used during that time aswell.
I don't think TFL considered the factor that not all people like heights so they wouldn't use the Cable Car in which TFL might not profit from them. Only people I see using it are tourists but other than that I would not be surprised if was axed. Although I think should be axed, I can't see it being axed because lots of money was put into the development of the Cable Car and river services and a few places could possibly be disrupted due to TFL having to take the cable down.
