Well, I was talking with a few friends about a possible bus station in the Oxford Circus area for routes 3, 12, 15, 25, 55, 137, 189, N8, N15, N55, N109, N136 and N136. I decided to produce a little scrap of something in the place of Cavendish Square and today I did a more detailed version. Just wondering, what you guys would think about this?

It would be a good idea as then there would be less diversions and all the routes can terminate in one place but the problem is that there is no space for a bus station and Oxford Street is full of shops etc. in which it wouldn't be a good idea to demolish all of them just to build a bus station.

You'd say that but TfL have discussed about having a bus station at either end of Oxford Street last year - it's in an old edition of LOTS that I'll dig out this week.

I'd heard that Leon Daniels said, if Oxford Street was pedestrianised, you'd have to build the worlds largest bus station at one end.

Slowly but surely the momentum is building for pedestrianisation......i fear its only a matter of time before it happens

But would it just be for terminating routes or will through routes join?

I really do like this idea. (Would like to of seen the 8 included to but never mind)
With these plans I'd also like to see Cavendish Square East and West closed off to all other vehicles, this is so that the East side can replace green space lost to the bus station and the west side can create space for the Bus shelters and other bus station facilities. Additionally Henrietta Place and Chandos Street would be pedestrianised to reduce traffic on the surrounding roads.
Also if Oxford Street (West, Oxford Circus - Orchard Street) is pedestrianised then I'd like to see routes 6 7 10 23 98 diverted via Seymour Street and Wigmore Street the remanding routes 13 94 139 189 diverted via Brook Street ( Eastbound) and Maddox Street ( Westbound) (this will be easy to put in place once the US embassy moves to Nine Elms) Route 137 & 159 would swap destinations so 137 Marble Arch (possible extension to Paddington Basin) and 159 Oxford Circus (possible extension to Baker Street)
In my opinion it would not make sense to close off Oxford Street (East, Oxford Circus - Tottenham Court Road) because the East to west Links are not simple as the other side of Oxford Street.

I too think it will happen , but the highest obstacle is dealing with very well off people living in Mayfair & Marylebone whose streets will have displaced buses running along them. I don't think a bus station will ever happen.

The thing is that many people who want to catch the 8,55 25 from Oxford Circus may actually not know where the first stop is as it's around a corner and sandwiched between two big stores. Maybe it will work having a digital sign at the junction displaying all the nearby stops as well as departure times
