They were tendered services that were bid upon by operators like the normal LT/TFL routes were post privatisation.
Some of the bigger operators ran mobility routes like Selkent, First thamesway, capital citybus (later first capital), London General to name a few. But some smaller operators ran them as well, some the mobility routes were their only TFL services like javelin coaches who had a number of mobility routes in west London. Other small operators come to mind, such as Crystals of Crayford who had an extensive number of mobility routes across South and south East London, Thorpes, Kentish Bus, London Buslines etc.

There's a Flickr group with some photos of some of the routes. Flickr photo groupWhen the Transport Committee got the patronage data from TfL it included lots of Mobility Bus routes. Despite doing lots of checks I have not managed to even put termini to some of the route numbers and I've gone back on the web and through old bus guides that I have. I haven't raked through all my TLBs as that would be a massive task and I don't need the info quite that much. If someone is trying to compile the history of those services then I feel sorry for them!

From memory, the 863 did Peckham to Brixton via Sidney Road & Robsart Street and the 868 ran from Brixton to Croydon via Streatham - they are the only two mobility routes I'd know the terminus of. I also remember the 861 running along Milkwood Road but have no idea of its terminus points. I'm really surprised that more info isn't available on these routes TBH.

Does anyone have any info on routes S11 and S13 (former routes)? I know they ran from East Dulwich Sainsbury's to (where-ever) via 37 and S11 via Rosendale Road and P13 then via G1. I saw this whilst looking at 115's history.

From memory, it ran Monday to Saturday shopping hours only. No idea regarding the S11 but it looks like it was partially replaced a number of years later between West Norwood & East Dulwich, Sainsbury's by the short lived Saturday only P15

I know Kentish Bus ran it for quite a while using Metroriders interworked off the 42 and the buses' cabs were fitted with a special baseplate to carry both an LRT Wayfarer machine and an Almex 'A' machine. Very odd indeed! Moz

Very odd indeed! Moz By looking at the map, it looks like it serves the full Valley Road and possibly then follows 249 and takes a left then follows straight on to the Sainsbury's. Thanks moz and vjaska for the info on those routes

I have some archive mobility bus guides (in paper form) from the 1990s/early 200s if anyone needs the route numbers/termini.
