Following the talk on the 'Bus Routes You Like to avoid' thread, I know nothing about different types of seats. Could someone (or rather quite a few people) tell me what are the different types of seats on different buses? When giving an example, if possible, make it on a bus based at: AE, BW, LI, SI, WH. I know, not much choice. For starters I'd like to know what seats are on the following buses: Stagecoach E400Hs (61 and 14 plate) Stagecoach Omnicities (in particular BW's) The 425's E400s. 11 reg E400s at LI. The 25's VNs. The D7's WVLs. SI's SEs. WH's E200's. WH's ALX400's. The 309's OS's. The 339's DM's (E200's & Capital's). DX's 08-reg T's for the 135. The 254's VWL's. The 106's DW's. AE's T's. VN37943 (BK10 ***).

Some links for folks to identify different seats: www.isri.es/products.phpwww.fainsa.com/en/index.phpwww.lazzerini.it/en/27/pratico_3840On a slight tangent... What seats do you find the most comfortable/uncomfortable? The most comfortable seat I have encountered has the least padding! It is the Esteban Ciclo fitted to Arriva's Enviro 400s and some of their Wright Gemini 2s. It has no padding apart from a thin layer of moquette. Whoever sculpted the seat must have designed it around my spine! It fits me perfectly. I could easily sit in it all day. The most uncomfortable seat for me is the Fainsa Cosmic as fitted to London United TAs for example. I like the high back appearance of this seat over all of the ones used in London but the foam used is absolutely rock hard and the seat bottom curves up awkwardly on both sides of the rear of the seat base giving it a pronounced U shape. Any other seat reviews?

Most uncomfortable without a doubt are Urban 90's

My favourite is the Lazzerini Transito seats used on Abellios ex Peagus SPDs. I like the Practico Lazzerini seats used on TfL operators. I hate Esteban Civic seats. Hard. Freshly padded Urban 90's and Esteban Ciclos are comfy

My favourite seats are the Lazzerini Practico (used by some of my favourite operators- NXWM and Stagecoach plus most of the Gemini 2s operated by Go-Ahead) and the Esteban Civics (used by Metroline and the ADEs) they're nice but I wouldn't go as far as calling them intercity seats!
My least favourite are the Scania seats on the 58/09 reg unrefurbished OmniCities and worn down Urban 90s and Ciclos. When freshly padded they're fine, but when a 12-year old unrefurbished/ heavily used route uses them then they become rubbish. I also hate the Telmacs used on BXs 56-reg E400s. Dunno what they're like refurbed but the unrefurbished ones are rock hard!
Another seat I hate are (mainly on the Alexander Dennis Enviro400, and indeed it's Achilles heel) the moulded seats found on most modern buses. The Olympus and Gemini 2 at least make an effort to make a comfortable modular seat, which is something I like about the MMC.

There aren't any seats I paricularly dislike, though my favourite is the Lazzerini. I quite like the Omnicities seats too.
But then, I don't know many seats.

Lazzerini is most definitely my preferred seat. It even has a cool name. LAZZERINI. Come on, man. As much as I appreciate those amazing SPs... any one that hasn't got groovy mint and blue bubble seats is uncomfortable. The worst offenders are London United's 08/58/09reg SPs and any Stagecoach ones with drab ELGB blue. But I still likes yous, you OmniCitys, yous. How could I ever be mad at them? beeeeeep. Esteban Civic (a.k.a.t.m Metroline VW seats) are fine. Could be a bit softer but I don't particularly mind them. Ciclos are really not the best thing since sliced bread and lazzerini jam. It's a wonder my behind pains after an end-to-end 313 journey, or those 102 and 135 end-to-end rides. Glad I got a more recent DW with the Civics for my 149 journey. Urban 90s are really not great. I knew this when I was an 84 regular. The only name I really recognized until everyone told me which seat was which. They're ugly and not comfortable at all. Fainsa Cosmics (a.k.a.t.m Metroline TA seats) are pretty good. The ones on the 234 aren't too bad as well. I presume Go-Ahead's WVLs/VWLs/whatever have them. Well, most of them are fine... except AF's drab non-hybrid Gemini 2s. Like the seats on the Jubilee line, those ones. These are the only offenders of the Go-Ahead fleet so far !

Most comfortable rear seats for me have to be on Optare Solos/Versa/Metrocities. The seat base tends to be one long strip of very soft squidgy foam.
In agreement with moulded seats. Most seemed to have been designed with appearance in mind rather than comfort.
Civics have a nice appearance especially in GAL blue with yellow grab handle colour scheme.
PS - Whoever designed the Victoria Line seats needs to be forced to sit in one 24 hours as a punishment. Too low to the floor - like you are squatting; no padding; bolt upright 90 degree backrest to the seat base and a seat base that is far too short. Atrocious seat design, they need to go back to design school. Bring back the springy seat bases on the Northern Line. Off topic rant over! Sorry I needed to get that off my chest.

The refurbed Stagecoach Omnicitys aren't too bad but the ones still with ELBG seating are awful. If you want one with proper padding, ride a refurbed London United Omnicity, excellent padding.

I'll take that as a compliment. When I first started to use the 205 I hated the seats but within a month I got used to it. They don't bother me anymore. Which means there's hardly anything I dislike about the Omnicitys. Actually 15115 and 15117 have extra padding on one of the seats on the front row, upper deck. If the seat all the way on the left is '1' and on the right is '4' then for 15115 it's 4 and for 15117 it's 3. And I think 15104 also has extra padding on the second row, seat 2 (hopefully you get what I mean).

If you have the opportunity at any bus rally you'll realise what we're missing
