TfL are consulting on updating and segregating the Cycle Superhighway (CS) that runs from Aldgate to Bow. While this route has a very poor reputation for safety the plans for rejigging the CS will involve massive highway changes and the loss of bus priority. There are also a lot of changes to bus stop locations. If people think the 25 and 205 are slow nowadays then they'll be being overtaken by snails after the CS works are complete. There is an awful lot of stuff to look at. Cycle Superhighway Consultation

'Our latest analysis shows the proposals would mean longer journey times for motorists and bus, coach and taxi passengers along most of the route, both during construction and once complete. There would also be longer journey times for users of many of the roads approaching the proposed route and longer waits for pedestrians at some signalised crossings.'
So screw every single other road user for the benefit of the lycra brigade pffft

It also inconveniences many groups of road user for one particular group who personally are the most dangerous road users of all.

And most cyclists actually don't wear lycra................talk about stereo typing

Hmmm, I may just open a cycle shop in Whitechapel. Although Id have to cycle to understand the needs of my my customers. This will lead me to speeding down the segregated cycle lane, probably hitting a bus passenger crossing the bridge to get to the island served by the 25 bus that probably wont turn up. If Im lucky I wont get hit by turning vehicles in the gaps of the 'fully segregated' cycle lanes. Even when i reach my shop to open up, crossing the road with my bike as a pedestrian will cause me to be late and lose customers. Then I have to tell my customers that their new bike has not been delivered as the truck is stuck somewhere in Ilford, behind 40 25's, 100 taxis, 2000 cars, BUT ALL THIS WONT HAPPEN BECAUSE THEY WILL INVEST IN BETTER TRAFFIC LIGHTS.
SO its a win all for everyone.
I think it could be time to open a new section on the forum for Cycle Schemes and Consultations.

Creating a segregated cycle lane basically means getting rid of the bus lane in some areas. The 25 doesn't need the extra delays, especially with the amount of delays on Bow roundabout. I have to say this is one of the first times I've disagreed with TfL 100%. Only one thing needs to be done to improve cycle safety- teach them how to cycle. EDIT- Just saw this: "We would reduce the bus lane hours of operation from Monday-Saturday, 7am-10am and Monday-Saturday 4pm-7pm to Monday-Saturday, 4pm-7pm between Vallance Road and Cambridge Heath Road to facilitate parking and loading for Whitechapel market from 7am to 10am" Seriously, what are TfL thinking? Why don't they just withdraw the 25 and 205? If anything it'll actually help by reducing traffic. The left turn from Bow Road into Bromley High St will be tightened. So the 108 won't be able to use 12m Citaros. Great(!) The absence of the right turn from Mile End Rd into Burdett Rd is totally stupid. A lot of vehicles turn that way. Where are they going to go now? I'll tell you- they're going to clog up the back streets. But then TfL won't do anything because the roads are owned by the council. The only good thing that'll come out from this is that the McDonalds bus stop will be removed (the one that prevents the 25 from using the flyover).

The speed limit is 30. A head on collision would be 60. Hmmmmmm..... Oh, and I love how every bus is an NBFL in the CGIs.

Yep and now the cycling community are up in arms because a tiny section on one side of the road in Whitechapel won't be segregated as it would cause issues with stallholders accessing their pitches.

Are you serious? Although I said I do support all these cycling plans, cyclists need to understand they don't own the road. They should be grateful for what's already been done for them.
