Would it be feasible & desirable to restore the old 256 route between Chingford Mount & the City?It would stop people having to change off the 58 & 158 at Markhouse Road/Lea Bridge Road junction. It could be numbered 278.

It could be numbered 278. What sort of volumes are you talking about? We've had buses running from north of the Central to Hackney and beyond in the past (the old 255) and they've never been very well used although that one went via the Central. It lasted 2 years being vanishing. Although it's more expensive the Chingford Line into Liverpool St is well connected with the bus network and provides a very quick link into the City. I'd want to see some genuine evidence that is a large untapped demand from the Markhouse Road corridor into the City. I wonder whether the demand is more for a trip down the Lea Bridge Road or possibly to Clapton without a change. Maybe you could do something like Cogan Av Est - Blackhorse Lane - Blackhorse Rd - St James St - Markhouse Road - Lea Bridge Rd / Station - Clapton? I wouldn't run it any more frequently than every 20 mins or so to start with. I'd also want to see what TfL eventually decide about the W15's route whenever the Palmerston Rd bridge is fixed. I'd also extend the W19 on a short distance to reach Lea Bridge Station once it is open.
