I know somebody was talking about recent Boris announcement on the ultra low emission zone but I can't remember where I read it or what exactly was said. From what I gather it's now going to be a minimum of euro 5 buses not 6 as planned. This is partly due to the 200 or so NB4Ls that are only euro 5.

I have today received an email in response to ULEZ confirming that fr 2020 introduction all buses in Central London will be Hybrid if double deck and zero emissions (eg electric) if single deck. It will also be 24/7 so applies to night buses as well.
Those that have heritage (tax class) will be exempt so not sure if 15H needs something older

Is that just service buses or does that include tour coaches also?

Unless technology zooms ahead one interesting side effect of the ULEZ as currently proposed is that bendy buses cannot return to Zone 1 as there is no such thing as an all electric bendy bus (other than one attached to wires and we know TfL aren't interested in trolleybuses).

It appears that a number of bus manufacturers could be considering a London electric bus now that Boris has ratified the ULEZ this week It of course means the 507 and 521 will now be electric on the forthcoming tender (I'm sure the MECs will find homes replacing the older omnicities within Go-Ahead London). They would be ideal for the 170.

A few other possible candidates are the 167,181,225,276 and 284 plus of course the new 358 contract, I don't know if anything has been ordered yet?

A few other possible candidates are the 167,181,225,276 and 284 plus of course the new 358 contract, I don't know if anything has been ordered yet? A 12 Metre bus would struggle on the Left turn of Bexhill Road & Manwood Road in Crofton Park on Route 284, even the 10.8m Enviro 200s have to pull right out into the road wide just to make that turn and avoid mounting the kerb and scraping cars, if an oncoming bus is coming and in the way it usually has to reverse. The Omnitowns are shorter, but do that left turn perfectly. A 12 Metre bus on the 225 might struggle to get into Springbank Road the right turn into the Bus Stand, usually many parked Cars there, plus the new Section of the 181 & 225, Longbridge Way at the end of the road there is a right turn, buses currently have to pull right out into the road to make the turn, a 12 Metre bus on the 181 & 225 might be too long because of that turn, though I might be wrong, but would probably cause mayhem. In addition the 181, 225 & 284 do not need full sized 12 Metre single deckers, just less lazy people in Catford boarding buses at Sangley Road to Catford when it is a 5 Minute Walk to go 3 Stops then moan at drivers to open the doors when traffic builds up at Plassy Road, especially School Children! The 181 & 225 is the worst Hither Green Lane is not far from Lewisham where many can walk! I would love for the 181, 225 & 284 to be double decked, but Low Bridges! Too many busy single decker routes with either low bridges, length restrictions which need more capacity!

I would suggest putting the MECs on the 225 and the above listed are good possible candidates for MECs .
