He will always get a mention as he is 'tipped' for better and greater things.....
With regards to the escalators the works have to be done and even if done overnight as one person in the article mentions due to the nature of the equipment they would still have to be switched off during the day/out of use - you cant strip an escalator back to the truss at Midnight do a spot of work and reassemble for use at 6am.....
Maybe people should be a bit more understanding that these things need to be done or you will have no escalators and only stairways (i.e. turned off escalators!).

Indeed, they should be more grateful that there is still one escalator in operation. At Brixton, there is also a lift down to the platform as well. As for Chuka, I've heard it all if he has been tipped for great things - Keith Hill has been sorely missed.

A lot of people do not realise that the escalators (and Lifts) on the underground are bespoke items they are made to measure. in some cases if an escalator (or lift) is not maintained correctly or a component fails it is not just a case of replace it but it needs to be manufactured to the original specification.

A minor rail supplement service could have been created for the duration between Brixton and Stockwell.

This has made the 'industry' section of Elevator World magazine: - ESCALATOR WORK CREATES FRUSTRATION ON LONDON TUBE Escalator repair work that is taking one of three escalators out of service at the busy Brixton station of the London Tube is creating crowd buildup and frustration among commuters, the London Evening Standard reports. Tube officials said work to repair two of the escalators at the station is necessary for safety reasons, since the units are more than 40 years old. They expect work to wrap up in summer 2015. In the meantime, they have added buses at Brixton and other stations. - See more at: www.elevatorworld.com/industry-news/industry-news-november-20-2014/#sthash.AsPEkOtZ.dpuf
