Well, Well, Well.
The traffic system at the junction has always baffled me, but somehow it works. However, all the buses try to squeeze themselves into the tight spaces there.
Before even seeing this article I was surprised my 69 this evening was overly cautious and chose to wait at the lights despite having space. I think the Stagecoach drivers got the hairdryer treatment.

Probably best not to speculate as we dont know the circumstances, whether it being human error or a vehicle issue

A lot of fuss for a minor damage only bump.

Having stood at the junction and taken photos last year I would guess that the 473 had crossed the Broadway and was merely trying to squeeze into the outer lane and not block too many other lanes. The traffic system there is a bit odd since they reversed the way the lanes work. Looks like a misjudgement to me or there may be something mechanical - both are obviously a guess on my part.

Isn't it odd that the damage is on the side that never hit the other bus. How did that happen?

Isn't it odd that the damage is on the side that never hit the other bus. How did that happen? Driver realised what was about to happen and stomped on the brakes. The front dipped down as is normal when braking but exaggerated due to the hardness of the braking and the front hit the kerb.

To realise how this accident happens you have to know the road lay out and signal timings.
Where the 473 and enviro came from is West ham Lane the lights there go green but infront of the enviro on Stratford Broadway is a set of lights that go red to enable buses to go down West ham Lane towards Plaistow.
It was a new driver in the 473.
He has followed the enviro from West ham Lane and not realised the lights on Stratford Broadway are red and gone into the back of the enviro. Driver hasn't been trying to squeeze into offside lane because the enviro has to be in the offside lane to go towards Stratford bus station and there is not enough space to get a bus fully into the offside lane before the lights on the Broadway that's where there's a nice gap that the 473 has gone into.
