I have noticed that when buses appear without a complete set of blinds for a route members of this forum call it bandit (insert company name *********) I can remember when buses were loaned between LT garages normally only front blinds were changed sometimes only number and destination with the (cough) advancement of power blinds this makes it more difficult as vehicle loaned may have different blind spec or for a loanee vehicle the time spent to change the blind sets is not worthwhile. As an ex member of bus staff most passengers don't care if the bus has a posh number/destination blind or if it has a slipboard with destination/route number as long as it is on time and they can get on the bus. Power blinds make the problem worse as you can't replace 1 blind they all have to be done so an A4 sheet of paper IS (in my opinion) acceptable

I think people don't mind too much if it is an emergency transfer or substitute vehicle. Things happen and sometimes you have to "get by". However the "bandit" problem is a bit different. What people are picking up on is a *persistent* failure to show the right blinds, not an emergency 1 or 2 day problem. It is quite clear that there are issues at some garages because of a lack of engineering staff / lack of management focus. I am afraid I do not agree with "bits of A4" being acceptable as a regular occurrence. London generally has a good reputation for clear and accurate blind information. If 99% of garages and drivers can get this right why should 1% be allowed to get away with it? Thankfully we are not subject to the woes of battered old Dennis Darts painted in hammerite black and held together with sticky tape and with paper destination info unlike passengers in parts of the West Midlands and elsewhere.
