I know it will never happen, but I'd love to see this route extended back along Lea Bridge Rd to it's historical home at Leyton.

Sounds like a good idea, but with running times of 1hr30 to the Pond (and 48/55/56 providing cover) it probably won't happen At the very least, I think more evening peak journeys need to run through to Clapton Pond. I frequently get passengers bypassing a Hackney bus to board a Pond one which results in an empty bus leading a full one. (More often than not I'm crewing the Pond bus :/ )

Maybe cut back the 38 to Tott Ct Rd or OXO & re-instate the 55 to Victoria.

Maybe cut back the 38 to Tott Ct Rd or OXO & re-instate the 55 to Victoria. The 55 is already as long as it is. It takes between 80 and 90 minutes normally to do a trip from one end to another and if you extend it I think there's going to be problems, given the current nature of Central London with all these roadworks.

I know it will never happen, but I'd love to see this route extended back along Lea Bridge Rd to it's historical home at Leyton. Even when the 38 did run on Lea Bridge Road the road was terribly overbussed even though routes were less reliable than they are now. The frequencies on the 48, 55 and 56 are now much higher than when the 38 served Lea Bridge Road which means there is a very regular flow of buses at all times of the day and night. Although there is a decent level of demand on Lea Bridge Road and points east into Hackney I don't see the point of adding even more capacity. The bigger danger is the proposed cycle priority works resulting in the loss of bus priority on Lea Bridge Road meaning buses will sit in massive jams at peak periods. That will just wreck the bus service along there.

Plus it was largely due to those bus priority measures that the 55 was re extended there in 1998.

Plus it was largely due to those bus priority measures that the 55 was re extended there in 1998. The 55 also was extended due to years of people campaigning of the loss of a direct service to the west end from Leyton. They wanted the 38 back, but the 55 was extended instead.

I guess that fact the 38 was high frequency Routemaster route that it was not extended. The 55 was proposed to get RMs back in 2001 but not enough could be found.
