Who misses these buses? I remember the route 25, I had very unusual and funny experiences on this particular route. There are rumours of the bus coming back Click here.

I certainly don't miss them except for their usefulness on the 507/521 routes. Apart from that, they were awful to travel on, especially the 25. By the way, I think that article is more daydreaming than rumours.

Well done for being suckered by the Boriswatch site. Date of the article - 1 April 2014. We have a year to wait before anyone starts talking seriously about the post Boris bus network. Nothing of any great substance will change policy wise before then barring some sort of catastrophic event.

I was a regular on the 25 bendy bus, very efficient for the route, but felt like the tube in rush hour. Also got my head hit by the closing doors once. You mention a catastrophic event... An inexperienced cyclist renting out Boris Bike and then taking it on the Emirates Airline, breaking the more than one person weight limit, snapping the cable, with the cable car dropping on a Borismaster*. The disaster made worse by the closure of the local Fire Station. Fortunately, no one gets hurt as the there are no Customer Assistant on the Borismaster. The cyclist also escapes but complains of lack of cycling facilities on the Emirates Airline. *An ordinary bus would have been missed but... that extra length. Awarding the 474 with the Borismaters in short notice did not help either.

Awarding the 474 with the Borismaters in short notice did not help either. That wasn't quite the catastrophe I had in mind. Anyway how nice to see that that well know user of buses and prospective Mayoral candidate, Stephen Greenhalgh, has been hunting "ghost buses". Apparently these are buses that run in the evening and are not jammed full of people. Therefore they should be scrapped as should night buses except on Friday and Saturday nights. He also wants a 3 hour bus ticket - presumably that's how long you'll be waiting for a late night bus in future? He also wants the return of net cost contracts which will have all sorts of daft consequences with operators outbidding themselves for route premium payments like on National Rail. We all know how brilliantly that one worked don't we. "We're sorry that route 36 isn't running this morning. Fred Bloggs Buses handed the keys back this morning because they were making such a loss on the route". Lunacy article in the StandardYou'll note how spectacularly popular (not!) scrapping late night buses is with the punters that the Standard "vox popped".

Can't say I miss the bendy buses. Bad enough the NBfL is coming to the 12 soon.

I can't say I miss them, they might have been ok on a route like the 108 but the bus stop blocking in Central London was just ridiculous. Using routes like the 25, 38 or 73 is a far more pleasant experience now.

They were far better on the 25 than he current trash at the moment, their higher capacity really made the difference and prevented overbussing on quite a few corridors. The bendy buses were probably the most efficient type of bus for routes like the 25.

I miss them alot!, would rather have them (and Tri-Axles) over the LTs thank you very much....if that ever was a choice . They were much more effective for busy routes, but I guess the money-wasting option was favoured over logic.

I vaguely remember travelling on a BendyBus on the 12 long, long before I even liked buses. 2007, I think. We got on at Elephant & Castle to get to a place near Peckham. The person who I was travelling made sure we took the 12, as we sneaked on at the back. They logically would suit the 507 and 521 of course, but they took them away. Seems more logical than normal single-deckers with ridiculous frequencies. +1 for the 108, that would be a good idea but might be hard to navigate in the tunnels. Also BorisWatch is a motley crew of extremely boring pedants. That is all.

I think the 25 has improved 100% since converting to DD and started being run by Tower Transit.

No, I am not joking the bendies helped the route a lot and I believe that they were the only solution to the route. Since Tower Transit started running the route I've had days where I've seen 15-20min gaps at Ilford then around 5-7 trundling up at once and it's probably not best to start with the situation at Stratford

There were also bendies kept in a compound near North Greenwich as stand by buses in case the Jubilee Line fell over. There are no issues with them getting through the tunnels.

Stagecoach ran the route fine, it was just those buses on the route that was the issue. If I wish to use the tube, I wouldn't board a bendy bus. I can't comment on the 15-20 minute gaps but bunching will occur on all high frequency routes - the 159 is and always has been run brilliantly by Arriva but yet bunches regularly.

I also found the 25 horrific with artics, at peak times every seat was taken after the first few stops and it was survival of the fittest after that, who wants to stand all the way from Holborn to Ilford? And yes a lot of people do use the route for long journeys like that especially when they can travel for free.
