Is there any particular reason for the bus station at Central Middlesex Hospital having no Countdown at all? It is a small open air bus station with just three bus stops but there should surely be a Countdown facility for the seven routes serving the location.

I think TFL use passenger data or something similar to determine where countdown is placed. Someone else on this forum probably knows more. The bus stops at Queen's Hospital don't have countdown either.

There are much busier places that have no Countdown. Brixton Station bus stops have no Countdown screens when originally all six had screens. The stop outside Iceland was one of the first in Brixton to gain the original Countdown screens (the ones that showed only certain routes and the information was in a red colour rather than the orange LED's on current Countdown screens.

From what I vaguely remember there used to be a few on some of the W3 and W7 bus stops. This one is meant to be at Croydon Flyover (don't know if it is there today and fully functioning).

It's funny you mention that as the three northbound stops at Brixton Station were two legged ones and had the Countdown screen in until the pavements were widened around 2010. Now those stops are just standard ones. The three southbound Brixton Station stops all used to have a bus shelter with Countdown screens but when the pavements were widened, the shelters went and only two of the three stops got replacement shelters with no screens. Meanwhile, the southbound St. Matthew's Estate bus stop is a two legged one with a Countdown screen but the much busier southbound Morval Road bus stop lost its two legged stop and Countdown screen. Not forgetting as well that all Brixton Hill bus stops have Countdown screens, at least 5 of the 6 Lambeth Town Hall bus stops have the screens and the ones for Brixton Police Station & the Academy also have screens so why leave the far busier Brixton Station stops with no screens. Baffling in my opinion lol.

It is a small open air bus station with just three bus stops but there should surely be a Countdown facility for the seven routes serving the location. I suspect there are three reasons why there aren't screens there. 1. TfL don't like equipping bus stations with conventional Countdown signs. Never understood why this is. There seems to be a move to install some display screens but they're a bit hopeless as they can't show all the routes on one screen if a place is even remotely busy. 2. As many routes terminate at Central Middlesex Countdown won't work very well. The system is notoriously poor for services at termini or within a few stops of where buses start from. 3. TfL offer a facility to install a TV or large PC screen and link in a special feed from Countdown for hospitals, shops etc but this requires payment by the hospital or shopping centre owner. While a good idea in principle I doubt that such things are a funding priority for a hospital! Let's face it - TfL could quite easily find a few million quid to expand Countdown screens to many more stops. It chooses not to do this despite regular demands from across London for more screens. It has never provided an adequate explanation as to why there is no sense of priority for this investment. My guess is that TfL have taken a strategic decision to "outsource" info provision to advertisers (those scan things on shelters) and via mobile phones feeds. I also think TfL is very reluctant to add any more assets to the Countdown contract because they've had to extend it with the existing supplier and are planning to "dismantle" the Countdown system structure so that it can competitively procure separate elements in the future and break the "tied supplier" arrangement it's currently lumbered with. I expect that we will see some new design of stop display in the future as part of TfL breaking away from the current system design. I doubt we will have as many signs though in future!

There was certainly one on Lordship Lane at the stop opposite Redvers Road. Sure there were others in Wood Green too. There was one on Regent Street s/b just south of Oxford Circus (until last year, I think) which had the new orange LEDs installed.

The Surbiton Sainsbury's stops used to have the two legged bus stops and countdown screens until last year, they were really useful but now as some buses like the K1 and K4 can be quite inconvenient sometimes there is no telling WHEN your bus will arrive. The Surbiton Station stop for the 281, K2 and K4 used to have a two legged bus stop and countdown screen as well but it has since been removed. Also King Charles road had its countdown screen removed too I think in 2012 along with the Princes Avenue stop both in Tolworth.

There was one around the New Malden area on the 213 a few years back. Also St Mathews Estate stop in Brixton towards Herne Hill has one of these too.
