consultations.tfl.gov.uk/roads/a10-kingsland-road/consult_viewAlthough largely to do with highway works to improve cycling facilities and the turn into Stamford Road one interesting aspect for bus services. This is a highway alteration to allow buses to turn out of Dalston Junction Bus Station and go left. I wonder if routew15's musings about the 309 might align with a move to extend the 309 via some back roads to Dalston which would require a left handed departure turning from the bus station?

Anything to get some use out of that station. It just seems a waste at the minute. How do you route the 309 from the Hospital? I think the D6 could be a better shout.

You beat me to it Was just about to post and I saw the notification pop up. So strange that this has come up, only two days ago I proposed a 309 extension to Dalston! I really hope this for a 309 or D6 extension. If this is a sign of my psychic powers Then I'd think a D6 extension/ consultation is imminent. It could also be for Rail Replacement and Routes that curtail to Dalston, this help out out a lot of routes that can't make up the A10 because of traffic. This bus station has potential there's space for at least 3.5 more routes, it's a shame there has been a modal shift in this area of Hackney.

Route 309 extension idea was posted here, alongside the D6 idea. Snoggle then developed the idea by suggesting the 309 serve some of the back roads in Dalston.

Thinking about it the D6 is a sensible choice as it currently stops in the middle of nowhere (comparatively). Its vehicles and frequency would be an ideal fit to run through to Dalston and that would be a really good cross Hackney / Tower Hamlets link. The resources notionally saved from not serving Hackney Central would almost certainly be enough to reach Dalston. The only downside is the route would become even more insanely busy than now.

It definitely would become busier. The D6 and the 277 would serve Dalston and Mile End together. Savvy passengers will notice the shorter, "traffic-free" route and shift over to the D6. Plus the frequency on the D6 is decent so waiting are not to bad this will grab quite a few passengers. With the extension the D6 could hopefully get above passenger numbers of 3,850,376 (2010) (Currently 3,332,645) I think the whole Hackney area could do with a rethink, there seems to be a lot of indirect duplication of routes (eg. 488/276) and an over saturation of certain corridors (Homerton High Street)

Double deckers definitely. Having travelled the D6 today from Ash Grove to Limehouse and it was overcrowded from Bethnal Green station (the fifth stop) till Limehouse i think DDs are needed. The only reason they may not have already been introduced is due to the small amounts of people who use the service during off-peak. The more I think of this extension, the more I think it needs to happen.

I have seen pics of VNs on the D6, not sure if they were allocated, or First just decided to put them on to make lives easier.

Extending route D6 to Dalston Junction Bus Station via Hackney Road and Kingsland Road would be a good idea. Would give Kingsland Road/Hoxton a link to the Docklands, Bethnal Green etc. I agree route D6 should be DD as well.

For a temporary period, the D6 had DN's and they were very busy whilst on the D6. Don't remember seeing any VN's but I guess it did happen.

Even off peak, the loadings at Mile End are heavy in my experience.
