Talking about King's Cross St. Pancras. Which entrance from the street gets you to Victoria/Piccadilly lines without a mile long walk along underground passageways?

The one on the corner of Pancras Road / Euston Road (not the side by St Pancras but where you are near the front of KX Mainline). Down the stairs, turn right, turn right again and you're in the tube ticket hall facing the gateline. Left hand escalators down to the Picc, right hand to the Vic Line. Alternatively there are stairs down very near the front of KX Mainline. Go down but turn LEFT and walk into the Tube Ticket Hall then as above. Do NOT turn right as that takes you to the Northern ticket hall and miles of corridors. At the moment you can't reach the Northern Line from the Tube ticket hall because the short escalators from the Northern to the level of the Picc Line are all being replaced. This means you walk for miles and miles to reach the Northern Line. I got caught by this recently!

There are stairs from the Piccadilly Line leading directly to the Northern Line, from the circulating space between the two Piccadilly platforms, which in the reverse direction are signed as "emergency exit only"!

Are they still open at the moment? I thought they'd been sealed off during the escalator works. The stairs down from the Vic Line to the Picc Line are closed because they arrive near the short escalators from the Northern.

They were open when I went past them on the Monday just gone, and used them a few months ago (definitely after the works started). However, neither instance was during the peak hours.

This means you walk for miles and miles to reach the Northern Line. I got caught by this recently! Last time I was there I found it is possible - use the lift at the left (looking from the outside across the gateline) of the main ticket hall. From the platform, head as if going up the escalators to the Picc and do a 180 just where the hoarding is.
