I'd level out both bus driver pay & tube driver pay by decreasing tube driver pay and bumping up bus driver so they become identical. And the RMT would send you a horses head! That's OK, Horse tastes alot like Findus Bolognese

Not really, it's just my opinion - my view might change when the general public are no longer held to ransom. And a bus driver doesn't have as easy time as you describe as a bus driver actually has to deal with Joe Public and is more exposed whereas a tube driver stays in his cab 99% of the time. +1 In simplistic terms, Tube driver - stop and go, open and close doors / stop in tunnel, make announcement 'waiting for train ahead of us at Warren Street to clear the platform, we'll be on the move shortly' Just out of curiosity do you see the role as being that simplistic for all train drivers? Mine definitely isn't like that.

Neither is mine I manually drive on the District line so I am responsible for smooth acceleration & break application also most Underground shifts on train side involve seriously unsocial shift patterns we don't just sit in the cab 99% of the time we do deal with the public and the problems that they can cause

I had to do my ERA (Equipment Room Access) course just to deliver IT kit across the Underground network so I know how complex it is, from track circuits to tripcocks etc., how you can't drink for 36 hours before a shift etc so I know it is a difficult and complex job Having seen a fatality at Ilford whilst fixing ticketing kit for Greater Anglia, I know how the public and difficult situations can be also. There's a greater political argument on how this Government spends its money (TfL's subsidy being cut year on year, along with Network Rail's), yet can find money to send to Greece which it will never get back (if Angela Merkel gets her way ) Are the S7 stock on the District yet or are they gradually being rolled out to replace the current stock? All these jobs, both driving trains and buses in London are difficult, but not appreciated by those higher up, especially Tories who want to get rid of unions as they are the party of big business... they won't be happy until everything's sold off, but further down the line will moan when it all goes pear shaped

Travelled a considerable distance on the District Line yesterday and saw quite a fair number of D Stock (?) trains. I'd estimate at least a third.

Yeah, I still do see the odd D Stocks but these days it's mainly S Stocks on the line. Must be because I use them from Barking and Wimbledon services at Barking use P3 and I never bother going there

All the District Lines I have recently taken have been S7 stock, it's actually been a while since I got a D stock on the route. The Wimbledon branch still have D stock rolling on it. There is greater number of S7 workings and the original idea was a D would be withdrawn as the S7 arrive but we have received some S7's but the corresponding D is still around. Another thing I have noticed is that there is a glut of S7 workings then it thins out then a glut on the trains next rounders, this makes it appear that there are more about then there actually are

Yes they are, but introduction is going rather ssslllloooowwwlllyyy... There have been issues, including inadequate power supplies and lack of storage space, e.g. not all depot roads can take or have been commissioned to take S7 Stock. Courtesy of DStock7080, District Dave's Forum.

Probably going to get slaughtered for this but I can't wait for the D stock to be gone - only feature of them I like is the windows. Just a shame the lovely C stock couldn't of survived longer instead.

I shall not slaughter you for the comment about the D Stock, I agree that once they were good trains, now their time is up and they should leave. But one thing I shall slaughter you for is the comment about the C Stock! Horrid trains they were

The new trains are an absolute Godsend in this hot weather - sweating it out on a C or D stock was never any fun. I don't miss them one bit!

Right from my first ride on a S7 (by chance their first ever day in service as well, on the Hammersmith & City Line), I noticed how much more spacious it was compared to the D Stock. And also much smoother because of the AC traction equipment.
