A bus driver from Bromley has been awarded UK Bus Driver of the Year 2015
The search for the UK’s best bus driver is finally over – and we can reveal they are in Bromley.
William Bradford, who drives for Stagecoach, clinched the national title of the UK Bus Driver of the Year 2015 after beating off 118 other hopefuls.
22-year-old Mr Bradford, who works at the garage in Bromley, is thought to be one of the youngest ever winners.
As well as clinching the overall title, he was also named the best driver in England, the highest ranking London bus driver and the highest rated Stagecoach driver.
The bus driver won trophies and cash prizes in recognition of his superior skills.
He said: “I was shocked when they announced I had won but I am ecstatically happy. It was a very challenging competition but it was a great experience and I really enjoyed it.
“I really enjoy driving. I’m still the youngest driver at the depot and everyone has been congratulating me and they’re all very happy for me since I got back.”
Mr Bradford, who’s been driving for stagecoach for four years, began training just two weeks after passing his driving test.
He clinched his place in the final after tough regional heats across the UK.
Stagecoach London managing director Mark Threapleton said: "This is a fantastic achievement for William and we are all absolutely delighted for him.
“To be named the best bus driver in Britain, particularly at such an early stage in his career, is superb.”
Mr Bradford had to drive a simulated route which includes hazards normally encountered on an average day.
They were tested on both public and private roads, and had to pass a written test on the Highway Code and bus driver knowledge.
Just like in real life, all 119 drivers from various companies had to stick to a schedule.
