Fast forward to today and the yuppies who are swarming into the area would most likely wish that taxi rank is still there lol. Have they 're-named' the area yet? When the red braces and gel brigade 'discovered' South London, Clapham became 'Claam'(as in Calm), Battersea became either 'South Chelsea' or 'Battasia', and Streatham became 'St. Reatham' I've heard rumours that Lambeth want to rename Brixton as 'New Clapham' - let's hope it remains a rumour.

Coming to think of it, you could do a really long bus journey please don't quote me on the route numbers but I know these routes exist as I have seen these with my own eyes....
555 Lancaster to Keswick Keswick to Carlisle . Carlisle to Dumfries X74 dumfies to Edinburgh Edinburgh to Berwick X10 Berwick to Newcastle
Will fill you in on route numbers and operators, you can travel on a stagecoach rider ticket all the way to Edinburgh from Lancaster think the ticket is £16...
I fly past these routes every week...

I fly past these routes every week... 554 runs Keswick to Carlisle 79 is the very long standing Carlisle to Dumfries bus. 101/102 Dumfries to Edinburgh 253 is Edinburgh to Berwick X15/X18 is Berwick to Newcastle - used to be the 505/525 until Arriva changed the numbers and merged together about 4 services to save money. I don't think an Explorer ticket stretches from Lancaster to Edinburgh. The North West Explorer will get you to Dumfries from Lancaster but I'm not aware of another rover ticket that works into Scotland given there are different operators on the services. There is also a First Bus route from Carlisle to Edinburgh avoiding the need to go via Dumfries. The NW Explorer is also valid on the 685/85 bus from Carlisle to Newcastle meaning it offers very good value. Unfortunately if you start at Newcastle you can't (AFAIK) buy a NW Explorer on the bus, just the North East Explorer which stretches to Carlisle only.
