According to SE1, 42 is going to be extended to East Dulwich's Sainsburys with double deckers subject to a consultation. I'm guessing this will tie into imminent it's tender result. Also interesting to note that all the councillors, regardless of party, on Southwark Council have condemned the service on the 42. That's quite an achievement for TfL and Go Ahead but doesn't help the passengers. www.london-se1.co.uk/news/view/8555I suspect TfL will be under great pressure, once the tender result is announced, to get single deckers off the route as fast as possible regardless of the extension proposal. If Go Ahead retain it then they will be under pressure to effect changes quickly even if some sort of interim arrangement is needed at Sunray Avenue to avoid the trees. The 42 has needed them for a long time now.

If the award is made soon to go ahead the the ex 155 PVls could be used till new buses arrive maybe thou surely it can't DD till the routing changes due to the trees.

Example VWL29Yes but Sunray Avenue has been deemed unsuitable for deckers due to low trees so deckers couldn't work the current route. VP's also went on the route years ago as have WVL's as well as VWL's.

Haven't seen a dd 42 run the route in a long time during the peak. 2010-2012 it was running very regularly, even in the off-peak.
Presumably left on Red Post hill will now be the route the 42's take? Unless Southwark will shape the tree's up on Sunray Avenue.

There are two along Red Post hill (P4 serves). But can the 42 turn left onto Red Post Hill from Denmark Hill/Herne Hill?

But can the 42 turn left onto Red Post Hill from Denmark Hill/Herne Hill? There is one stop on Sunray Avenue which is the alighting point, stand and first stop all rolled into one so to those along Sunray Avenue who won't be using the extension, it will be issue if it runs both ways via Red Post Hill. Personally, I'd carry on running it via Sunray Avenue towards East Dulwich and towards Liverpool Street via Red Post Hill as it does currently.

I thought the problem affecting double deckers was on Red Post Hill rather than Sunray Avenue - I'm sure I read on here that it could be alleviated by building out the kerbs at bus stops, but the associated loss of parking made it impractical.
