I just realized, I can go from New Cross to Sudbury (or Harrow Weald) via the 36 and 18/N18. Or better yet, I could go from Lewisham to Friern Barnet via the 21 and 43. This is probably the furthest north you can go from the Lewisham Borough during the day.

Since we all immediately broke the rule by straying from our 'home' options, I'm putting out a suggestion for one outside London. These are both local 'stage' routes.
685, Newcastle to Carlisle (60 miles) X95, Carlisle to Edinburgh (101 miles)
Done.
(I have, incidentally, ridden the X95 and I was literally blown away with how beautiful the scenery was.. proper winding through forests and over hilltops type stuff, as the light was fading.)

I can sort of beat that but only in the Summer months. 888 Wrights Brothers Newcastle - Keswick 555 Stagecoach Cumbria Keswick - Lancaster And I have done both but not on the same day. Both very scenic routes with an amazing set of bends west of Alston on the 888.

For me, where I live (Coventry): 900 to Birmingham, then erm... X51 to Cannock? If not, 48 to Leicester, Skylink to Derby
From my London base: 27/267/H91 to Hammersmith, 702 to Bracknell And for those who think the 702 isn't a bus route (it is) - the E3 to Greenford, 282 to Mount Vernon Hospital.

For the West Midlands can't you hop on a First 144 to Worcester or Arriva 110 to Tamworth in central Brum? Unfortunately the good old days of Midland Red Expresses to places far and wide are long gone.

- Route 65 from Ealing Broadway to Kingston - Route 465 to Dorking Could be worth a 'mention in despatches' In LT red bus days the 65 from Ealing Broadway to Leatherhead was always accepted as the longest route

The furthest using any two buses would probably be 428 to Bluewater, then 703 to Maidstone, on a Wednesday or Saturday, otherwise substitute 703 for the Medway bound 700 and 701.
Using TfL only, then it would probably either be 89 to Blackheath then 108 to Stratford, 89 to Lewisham then 75 to Croydon or 89 to Lewisham then 21 to Newington Green.
