When a Harrow bound 483 reaches Alperton the IBUS now says "Alperton Station for the 83 to Golders Green." Oh dear, do people still want a through service from West of Alperton to East of Wembley? I bet TFL gets a lots complaints about why they can't get from Ealing to Kingsbury anymore.

When a Harrow bound 483 reaches Alperton the IBUS now says "Alperton Station for the 83 to Golders Green." The IBUS lady says something completely different to the Screen. She's says "Alperton Station alight here for the 83 to Wembley Park, Kingsbury Green, West Hendon, Hendon and Golders Green". I was on a 483 bound for Ealing Hospital during peak time and it was packed between Harrow and Ealing Broadway 😱 I didn't think I would see a packed 483 between Harrow and Wembley. So it's seems to be doing well.

This may not be worth mentioning, but I'll mention it anyway The 483 is significantly longer than the 83 regarding their routes. The 483 is 'apparently' 11 miles and has a running time of 41-85 mins whereas the 83 is less, and certainly much less than it used to be at only 8 miles and 34-71 mins, running times courtesy of 'londonbusroutes'. However, upon tracing the 483's route it's actually approximately 10 miles in length, therefore the extra mile might be an error on the website. Additionally, the 83's stated current running time is questionable as 34 mins is too low a minimum despite the route's curtailment. It's probably safe to say the 483 'stole' the 83's glory Although it's for the better as the latter should be more reliable now. Thank you RMZ, as this explains why route 483 has a higher PVR than route 83.

This seems as good a place as any to report this. It's just that route 83 was converted to opo Mon-Sat on 23.4.83. I can't immediately think of any route that was converted to opo in the appropriate year in question!

I still find the VHs on the 13; with number plates BT13 XXX a far better coinsidence as BT is the garage code for the buses!! Very spooky indeed

(unless its one person operation in which case I'm more confused) OPO indeed stands for one person operation. What MetrolineGA1511 is saying is that he doesn't recall any other route converting from Routemaster operation to OPO operation (any bus operating with just a driver and no conductor) in 1983.

The new stop on Wembley Hill Road has finally emerged, it's called Manor Drive and it seems like it's in the Northbound direction only, at the very start of the hill near the junction of Empire Way.

Route 83 just about sums up how many generations of double-decker London has had since the RMs. In the 70s it went over to DMS on Sundays. Upon conversion to M in 1982 it was one of the first routes to lose RMs for withdrawal (as against for replacement of other types elsewhere). Upon its maiden tender in 1997 it went over to Olympian - Leyland and then Volvo. Its subsequent tenders in 2002 and 2009 led to its conversion to Volvo B7TL then Volvo B9TL respectively. Alas the chain did not lead to VWHs for the next route 83 tender in 2016. However, route 83 does illustrate how far double-deckers have changed since the days of the RM.
