Supposedly the best antivirus available but, compared to Avast which I have used for several years, I found AVG annoying and intrusive. A simple uninstall via Contral Panel did not work and, surprisingly, neither did the AVG Removal Tool. Avast was still detecting AVG's presence on my computer. Not feeling confident enough to go into the Registry, I felt the only solution to get AVG fully and completely off my computer was to re-install my Windows 7 64bit. AVG finally gone.

Surely using the System Restore would have been much easier?

I haven't used an antivirus in about 5 years now. Though I usually will install one when I fix somebody's computer. Avast is apparently the most effective free antivirus programme. Once the silly announcements are disabled, it's OK. Microsoft Security Essentials isn't bad. I hear Comodo is good too.
When I was first getting into computers, I used to reinstall Windows for just any little thing. Now I try to avoid doing fresh installs by any means possible.

I've used AVG for years and never had a problem with it, always does the job for me. If you want an annoying and intrusive anti-virus software, try Norton.

Honestly, no one needs an anti-virus. If you're tech savvy enough to not click on any dodgy links and not download any unsafe .exe files, you'll be fine. Also, anti-virus programs are annoying! Even the guy who created Norton Antivirus uninstalled it from his computer because he found it annoying lol.
Disclaimer: Despite what I've said, you should at least have the default OS anti-virus software installed. You just don't need any fancy ones like Avast or McAfee.

I uninstalled AVG because it was invading my internet browser with some AVG nation search engine or whatever, my computer started getting crazy meaning I had to reinstall Windows, and I was 'oh, you want to start acting shady, well then BYE!'
I got Avast as a replacement but it's rather irritating with that annoying lady all about that 'threat has been detected!' - I don't need some old lady speaking to me about this. Just give me a pop-up. Also it keeps on blocking a few certain sites which I know to be perfectly fine.
To be honest I don't do anything silly on the computer and avoid clicking on dodgy links or going on dodgy sites.
