Agree does look like arson. I hope the person is caught charged and dealt with swiftly and severely by the Courts before he has the chance to do it again. Thankfully this time no one was seriously hurt.

I would look at his past history. If he is a lost caused, I say keep him away from doing it or anything similar again i.e. Youth Detention, Prison. However, I think and would hope with someone so young, that maybe doing something like getting him to do community work at Stagecoach for several weekends or evenings may teach him a lot more and help steady him for the future.

Totally agree with you though i would add that in terms of community work his school summer holidays should be worked as well, obviously with adequate consequences should he fail to commit to the hours/labour. Would be ironic to think that one day in the near (19+) or distant future he may need or even want to apply for a bus driving job.

How can your "solution" of state endorsed burning to death of a child represent any level of proportionate justice? I can't see anyone at Stagecoach or TfL wanting this level of justice being applied in respect of damage to their assets. His crime was serious, more so given his age, but damage to property has no equivalence with killing the alleged perpetrator. This isn't the dark ages. Even if you were "joking" (and I suspect you aren't) it's not remotely amusing.

It seems to me that you want to be a do gooder. This is a VERY serious incident. If you do not know, the majority of people who start doing arson tend to go on to being serial killers. Many of you may think its just a bus and the insurance would take care of it. But the reality could have been far from different, if it were a packed bus, full of buggies and possibly a wheelchair user downstairs, now had that caught alight and spread like that; it could cause panic and people running crushing each other to get out the exits, now imagine people getting crushed dropping down the staircase etc. then the smoke.

I think we'll have to get out of the EU before courts can pass sentences like that
On a more serious note there is a tendency to dismiss things like this as just a bit of mischief rather than imposing harsh punishments on offenders, and of course there will be the inevitable bunch of 'do gooders' claiming that it wasn't his fault and that society is to blame etc etc
