Does anyone know whether or not there is a guide as to where the white "BUSES" roundels should be placed on buses? I ask because I've noticed more and more inconsistencies, both in terms of roundel placement and size, even within the same vehicle type and operator. Even sister vehicles sometimes have completely different stickers. For example, on the E400s, on the right hand side, I've seen the roundel under the staircase, under the first window and even a small roundel under the drivers window!. I'm not sure if this is due to sloppiness/lack of care, or because there's no standard position and they're just randomly applied.
In either case, it looks very unprofessional

In either case, it looks very unprofessional I think they are randomly placed personally and I agree that it's very unprofessional. Even worse is the small size roundels being fitted - surely a one size theme would be way better?

The originals from when the rule came in to effect (2010?) were all much larger than the current large size ones. The most ridiculous application I've seen of the rounded wS a small one on the side of a VNW.

There is a detailed internal guide complete with each type of vehicle and where the roundel should be placed in accordance to the type. However I think when panels are replaced and laziness to the placement becomes thwarted.

We still have the "year of the bus" roundels on most of our buses but at least they are on a sensible part of the bus There was one of the repainted MMs on the E8 a few months ago which had the roundel placed almost to the rear of the bus instead of at the front I think, like blind presentation, operators are tiring of all the fussy changes and strict requirements, and as a result standards of presentation generally is slipping. Bring back the 80% red rule and see how operators will take a bit more pride in stuff there's no enforcement when it comes to presentation hence the variety of blind sets, roundel placement etc...

Not sure they're tiring of the detail. I would agree that TfL forever changing things makes life very difficult. If the spec keeps moving what standard do you apply and when? There probably is some enforcement but what standard do you apply given it's unreasonable for a bus with 5 years service, and possibly due to return to a leasor or be sold on or used for another contract term, to comply with the very latest spec. However it may well comply with a previous set of standards! No reasonable organisation keeps "moving the goalposts" and also expects immediate retropsective compliance. The Underground certainly doesn't because it would cost an absolute fortune. Someone needs to put a stop to the changes and leave things stable for a few years (unless legislation forces a change) so operators have a chance of getting their fleets compliant and to save money.

So true. But there's fun to be had in changing blind layouts ever so slightly so they are a little more vague / illegible / detailed / white / yellow (delete as applicable) It makes me wheel out the old LED blind argument in that a change of garages wouldn't have to mean a change of blinds etc and the subsequent banditry that goes with it

Do you have a copy to share? tfl.gov.uk/info-for/suppliers-and-contractors/design-standardsUnfortunately the only bus one there is for the NB4L but it gives an insight into how precise TfL are about how they want things presented. And then they allow them to be plastered in hideous all over adverts.

In either case, it looks very unprofessional The W13 ELC Darts are horrible for very small roundels when a normal size would fit. looks slabby.
