Do any of you find any area of London less exciting for transport than elsewhere?
Some of us might say Euston for having so many routes run by LTs!
Somewhere that stands out for me is Kingston. I have historically found areas well served by Underground, or at least by many central London routes, more fun. Kingston has no day routes at least to central London, nor any Underground. Admittedly there are buses to Richmond, Hounslow, Wimbledon & Morden for example. I also like South West Trains less than Southern (current strikes aside), and London United is my least favourite former LBL bus company.
On a positive note, some Quality Line stock is different, and there are many routes to choose from in the area.

I used to like having the N77 (mainly for the PVL's and WVL's) in Tolworth as it meant a direct night link to Central London. Almost every route in Tolworth goes to or terminates in Kingston, apart from the 265 and school routes. It would be good to have a direct link from Chessington to Tolworth. All routes in Tolworth either use DPS, E400, E200 or Scania buses and it is nice to have some new buses on the 265 for a change, although I do miss the Marshall Darts that used to run on the route under London General. Sometimes I think Tolworth is forgotten about as an area that has so many chances for an improved bus network with new links. Most of the routes in the area aren't too long so extensions shouldn't be a problem, most notably extending the 265 to Wandsworth and a possible night link to Central London again. |

Not really but I guess it depends on what "floats your boat" in terms of your transport likes and dislikes. I think every area has merit because we have so much variety in terms of architecture, route networks, different modes etc. For me the point is to see transport "doing its job" which is why I like seeing buses and trains carrying lots of people or loading up / setting down at stops or seeing the places they're in as background in photos. London is blessed with so many different areas with different histories etc that there's always something of merit to see. Even the most "dull as dishwater" boring photo taken today will appear wonderfully exotic in 20, 30 or 50 years time.

Richmond. To me it feels as though all the buses either go to the same place or don't go far enough. Furthermore it is to only North London Line station exclusively in Zone4!  |

Central London - too much traffic. I like the outer suburbs as there are a higher proportion of pre Ecolife/Sensotop buses and a better chance of a fast ride, particularly in the evenings.

Whilst I know the routes in Richmond are good and reliable they don't interest me. The area has lost so many historic routes. If you go back to 1990 they still had the 27, 33, 37, 65, 71 and 90 and 290. Even 10 years before that they were nearly all RM thou there aswell.

Wembley. Full of boring Metroline buses and routes , horribly congested, thoroughly unpleasant.

Harrow (as a borough in the round) and Barnet (Chipping & surrounds) don't do much for me. Stable networks with little in the way of innovative change.
I find Richmond and Kingston quite interesting just because I'm not too familiar with them - making it my business to get to know those areas and the transport networks that support them better.
I've all but given up on Central London, except for the daily commute when I'm not on two wheels (Gray's Inn Road gives a reasonably quick exit going north), and travel between Liverpool Street and London Bridge mainline stations (where even walking can beat the tube). The network retrenchment and near paralysis at major infrastructure project locations have put me off bus travel in zone 1 almost altogether. I've also been buried in the minutiae of z1 geography and infrastructure to the last detail for many years so not much novelty to the landscape there anymore. If I can get out quickly (2, 82, 113, 46, 271 etc) I'll still consider it but most E-W travel is a total no now.
That said, I took a C10 end to end for the first time a few evenings ago and enjoyed the new angle on familiar territory. It was relatively free flowing on a Sunday night.

Wood Green is rather monotonous with its infestation of Arriva Gemini 2s I don't mind that, lol having endured the monotony of Brentford and the 235's... the most fascinating thing was the Voith TPs on the E8, then the MAN single deckers before more dull sounding B9TLs took over. Seeing the 'infestation of Gemini2s' was quite nice when popping back to see family in North London during my 2 year exile  Worst thing here? The noisy 123s and their fans  |

Central London and that's mainly because of the LTs. I used to love going to Central London because of diversity yes you had the Routemasters but also had MCW Metrobuses, Volvo Citybuses, ECW bodied Leyland Olympians, Dennis Darts and Volvo Olympians. Even when you when the low floor buses came in you still had diversity what with the Bendy Buses, ALX400s, Wright Pulsar Gemini, Wright Eclipse Gemini and Plaxton Presidents. Now it's just full of LTs. If I walk down Oxford Street, Regent Street and Whitehall all I see are Borismaster and now I find Central London because of the lack of diversity. I rather be at Brent Cross or White City or Hammersmith rather than Central London. I'm sorry for LT lovers on this site but that's how I feel.
