Somewhere else I have not really picked up on is Orpington. It has no central London routes nor any direct day routes to an Underground station. Even the main operator Metrobus, until absorbed into GAL, was not even a former LBL company. I have found its moquette refreshing though, but realise that GAL moquette will effetively replace it in due course. Whilst it may not be exciting, the Orpington routes are quite scenic and good to travel on! The R3 is one of those routes.

I haven't been to Orpington in years but it does have an array of buses and given its distance to central London or the tube network it's a bit unfair to use these facts as a barometer for its appeal.

I don't get to Orpington very often but there is a variety of routes and vehicle types there. I've always managed to get some decent snaps over the years and it's interesting to see some things develop and others don't change (very much). As Zubin says the routes are interesting in and of themselves - I've done a few of them with a few left to do.

However there is no tube station for miles and the 'big railway' does offer a decent service into Central London although it is operated by Southeastern of course! It depends what you like really but Orpington has plenty of small buses, new Citaro's on the 358, AKT route 477 plus of course a few big bus routes.

Yes, it is indeed a claim to fame that Orpington has so many minibus routes. It just feels a bit less like London as a result but I shall report positively on nearby route 464. I remember riding it 3 years ago and on a rural section playing the game Guess where in the country this reminds me of!

I've started spending a lot of time in Orpington recently and like the bus network there. The "R" routes seems to pop up here there and everywhere I.e out of side roads, down country lanes etc. Particularly like the r2, r8 and r10.
The b14 seems a weird route in Orpington for some reason and the 477 is nice as it breaks up the sea of red!
Technically it does have a central London route in the n199
