1. What have the following stations in common? Bayswater, West Acton, Bounds Green, Brondesbury, Kenton, Kilburn, Northwick Park, Bowes Park, North Ealing and Queensway. 2. In 1901 the East London Railway produced posters and handbills in which foreign language? 3. Prior to the rebuiding of Angel, where were the longest escalators on the Underground? 4. And where was the first escalator (or more properly, moving stairway) installed in London. Read the question carefully! 5. At which station was a special toll introduced for the use of one of its escalators? 6. Who were responsible for the design of Loughton station? 7. What was significant about the opening of the Central line from Leytonstone to Newbury Park/Woodford on 14.12.47? 8. Which Underground service ceased on 9.10.1964? 9. Which Underground line name was devised by 'Quex' in the Evening News in 1906? 10. What feature do Clapham Common/North stations have in common?

1. I know the connection, they are stations on the same road i.e. North Ealing and West Acton are at either end of Queens Drive, Bayswater and Queensway are on Queensway (the road), but I don't know where Northwick Park and Kenton are on this as they are not on the same road. Bounds Green and Bowes Park go together but can't find the connection!
3. I always thought the first escalator was installed at Earls Court in October 1911, but now you have thrown me into doubt after seeing the "read question carefully" bit!
6. As with most stations at the East End of the Central Line, the Eastern Counties Railway
Apart from that I'm stumped!

1. nearly correct, Tangytango. Another look at the map should solve it. 3/4. You mean 4 not 3. And as I said read question carefully! 6. No way (I mean the present station by the way)
I leave you guessing for a week or two.

I'll give you a clue on no. 4. I said "in London", so not necessarily on the Underground!

OK folks, answer time.
1. Unscrambled, they can be formed into stations that are walkable in between, i.e. Bayswater & Queensway; Bowes Park & Bounds Green, Northwick Pk & Kenton etc. (I'm planning a marathon bash of the Underground for charity and they come in useful!) 2. Yiddish 3. Yes, Leicester Square (Picc Line) 4. Harrod's store (pre-dated Earls' Ct Underground) 5. Highgate (from 1957): escalator (up only) to Archway Rd. 6. The LNER (to Underground design) 7. It was the last piece of railway in the UK to be opened before Nationalisation. 8. District Line trains to Hounslow West 9. Bakerloo line 10. Yes, island platforms - same as Angel before rebuilding.
