Hi, new to this forum so apologies in advance of any errors.

I noticed Ensign have Lothian’s old 124 - SN04 NHU. This is a bus myself and others have been considering for preservation once it has reached the end of its service life. Given its age and the fact it’s been at Ensign for a few months now I’m wondering if anyone knows if it’s likely to be scrapped anytime soon? I’m considering getting in touch with Ensign if the former is likely if a buyer hasn’t been found, obviously these current restrictions make it all the more harder too.

Yea I’m caught in a very hard scenario, would be almost impossible to get it back up here to Scotland just now but don’t wanna see it crushed either. I’ll have a look at contacting them in the morning but thanks for the suggestion.

Not sure if they can do this, but you can try contacting them now and asking them to hold on to it for the time being due to Covid, they may ask for a storage fee or something similar if they can offer it though

Registrations like that remind me of teenage years and a phase of riding the night buses to their outer extremities. Long before the days of LVF and QSI monitoring being more comprehensive than the solitary observed checkpoint at Trafalgar Square, which meant that night buses were often driven particularly spiritedly once out of the central area.

This particular bus was a rare example of a Euro 2 era B7TL which had a working kickdown - the ZF 5HP500 with it's trademark bang when the bus dropped down a gear. And the wailing alarm from the cab every time the bus exceeded 1900rpm. It usually sounded worse for wear with the transmission slipping and making the bus judder whilst under load. Still, I'm sure the night drivers at Hounslow clocked on that it had a bit more grunt than all its sisters other than VA95 (W129 EON). VA78 (V194 OOE) often made it out on the N9 in that state and was hammered all the way to Heathrow and back. Once I boarded it at Charing Cross looking forward to the ride, only for someone to fly kick the front door on Lower Regent Street, shattering the glass.

I think by the time VA78 made it to the training school, the gearbox was replaced as it drove a lot better then! To its credit it lasted for quite a long time!

I do hope W556RSG finds a good home, I've seen it across North London a lot and is quite interesting as it is not Ex London and instead came to London from outside London (being Lothian). It is one of those buses that I've seen a lot despite it not actually working a route, same with V213MEV before it was scrapped.

Actually impressed someone agreed to take the hit on depreciation charges for all those vehicles in one go ... most un-Arriva London like. Still should place them in a better position for the future, reducing the cost base by eliminating future depreciation charges. Good for the longer term viability of the company. Never made any sense worrying about shorter term budgets, which were wildly optimistic. Very quick count, make that exactly 100 vehicles gone, or the space occupied by a small to medium sized garage.
