For those on the Forum who like their music and radio then if they haven't done so it would be worthwhile dipping in to the shows and podcasts for last weekend's "pop up" Radio One Vintage channel. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p059cwknObviously depends on your age and what era of music / radio you're familiar with but there is a really great spread of shows with lots of archive clips and songs compiled into 1 hour shows from the late 60s to more recent times. I've enjoyed shows about the Top 40 Chart, Newsbeat, Kenny Everett, Woo Gary Davies, Annie Nightingale, Alan Freeman, Kevin Greening, Tommy Vance, John Peel, Ed Stewart, Emperor Rosko, Peter Powell, Mike Smith, Janice Long, Noel Edmonds and Mike Read. Some of the DJs I knew weren't covered like Andy Peebles, Richard Skinner and Alexis Korner which is a great shame. There are also obvious omissions for entirely predictable reasons. Yes it's a great big nostalgia trip but it does show how skilled a real DJ (not a Z list celebrity plonked in front of a mic) is and how much radio meant to people as they grew up. There are also a few TV shows dug out of the archives including one showing Noel Edmonds do his breakfast show (he makes it look effortless) in the 70s and "Blood on the Carpet" where Matthew Bannister sacked all the old DJs in the early 90s. The shows are there for another 27 days or so. The podcasts remain permanently. I've never seen anything on Twitter generate universal praise but I'd say Radio 1 Vintage managed to do that. I also haven't listened to so much Radio One in decades.

I listened to a few of these Radio 1 Vintage montages online, such as the top 40, Peter Powell, Gary Davies and Janice Long.
