Sorry to be the party pooper but that misuse of an escalator shows how incredibly dangerous the things are if they are abused / misused. I understand from comments on social media that the chap was seriously injured or may even have died. Escalators can be lethal if you don't use them properly.

Completely agree there, this is just foolish. I've seen many of these sorts of videos on social media and I don't see why people think it'll just be a straight slide down despite the bumps and stop buttons. But Instagram follows, Snapchat friends and Twitter followers are all more important that health now it seems

I've seen many of these sorts of videos on social media and I don't see why people think it'll just be a straight slide down despite the bumps and stop buttons. But Instagram follows, Snapchat friends and Twitter followers are all more important that health now it seems The problem is that people see "James Bond" do it in Skyfall but fail to notice that all of the emergency switches and other things are removed to ensure a smooth slide and, of course, a professional stunt person is used. I know people get fed up with endless announcements and all the posters about "don't stand close to the platform edge" "don't be silly on escalators" "take care on stairs" but if anyone saw the accident stats or the aftermath of these incidents they might change their mind. I used to be involved in station stuff and also had the H&S role for our department so I got to read a fair share of accident reports - they don't make for nice reading. I've never seen the physical aftermath of a serious accident or fatality and I feel sorry for those who have to clear up the mess. Millions of people may use the tube every day but it doesn't mean it's without its dangers. Only takes the slightest thing - I saw what happens when people let luggage fall on an escalator at Heathrow. It's like watching dominoes fall over but with people and bags instead.
