Reading Buses is reintroducing its F-prefix football specials in a limited way, with the Reading v West Ham friendly on Wednesday 21st July. Route F1 will operate from Reading Station (Station Hill, stop WS) to Madejski Stadium at frequent intervals from 17.00 to 18.45, and will return at frequent intervals after final whistle with last departure expected to be around 21.40. Route F2 will operate Between Shinfield Park Park & Ride site and Madejski Stadium. Route F3 is a new service and will operate between Mereoak Park & Ride and Madejski Stadium. It replaces the 60f following the restructuring of the Greenwave routes last year. The other F-prefix services will not operate for this fixture although passengers can travel into Central Reading by normal services to connect up with the F1. The return fares are: F1 - adult £3; under 19s £2.50. F2 and F3 - adult £5; under 19s £2.20; group £6 (these fares include parking) Concessionary passes are not valid for free travel but there is a special fare of £1.50 for pass holders. Reading Buses is operating the F1, F2 and F3 again on Saturday 31st July for the Reading v. Crystal Palace fixture. As kick-off is at 3pm buses will operate from around 13.00 to 14.45, and last buses back from the Stadium will be at around 17.40. Reading Buses will also be operating buses from Henley back to Reading for the Henley Regatta, which takes place this year on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th August. On both nights route HR1 will depart Station Road in Henley at 20-minute intervals between 22.30 and 02.30, operating via the A4155, Henley Road, Prospect Street and Caversham Centre to Reading Station (South Interchange). Fares are £10 per person or £15 for two travelling together, and passengers may alight at any bus stop on the way into Reading.

Reading Buses National Express-liveried Scania/Caetano Levante coaches 1415-1417 have been returned to service, and are operating National Express route 210 (Heathrow Airport - Wolverhampton) on a temporary basis as their former Heathrow Airport - Woking route 925 remains suspended.

Has anything been heard of about the 925 resuming? With First's RA2 Railair having now run Guildford - Woking - Heathrow Airport during much of the 925's latter suspension, I can't help but wonder if National Express will ever deem it worthwhile?

Reading Buses has secured a £1.5 million technological upgrade. The funding came from the Government's Local Growth Fund and was awarded by the Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). The money will enable audio-visual next stop announcements to be installed on Newbury & District and Thames Valley Buses vehicles (Reading Buses vehicles already have these). An upgrade to the back-office functions will improve "real-time" predictions on the app and departure screens and in the control room. New departure screens will also be installed at Reading Rail Station and Newbury Rail Station. There will also be improvements to the online shop. www.reading-buses.co.uk/completing-connection-0

On the 925, I understand the coaches have moved to Newbury - Reading Transport (Newbury and District) are advertising for Nat Ex drivers based at Newbury (Greenham) to do Nat Ex 210 and 507 routes, which suggests it's fairly long term.

Reading Buses have loaned some double deckers (believe from the Newbury and District fleet which mainly do schools, and from the Vodafone contract fleet as the Vodafone services are still suspended) to Yellow Buses, Bournemouth, for the summer.
And as already mentioned, the open top bus has gone to Cardiff for the Summer (although the un-branding could perhaps have been done better) - more here.
On the basis that the Reading Festival is going ahead in August, wonder if Reading will have quite enough buses to do the usual shuttle services, or whether they might have to seek some short term loans?

To pull various bits and pieces together: The six buses on loan to Yellow Buses (Bournemouth) are ADL Enviro400 MMCs 781-786 - the first two are in allover red for Vodafone and the others are in Newbury & District black and green. They arrived in Bournemouth on 26th July and are due back on 5th September. The Vodafone contract in Newbury is expected to resume in September, but at a much reduced level requiring the double-deckers 781 and 782 only. This will render Scania Irizars 21-26 redundant and they have already been sold to Midland Classic - most had departed by the end of July. Scania OmniCity 4 has been sold to Cardiff Bus. ADL Enviro400 MMC 795 is to be reallocated from Thames Valley Buses to Reading Buses and will be repainted from its Milton Park blue livery into Green Line 702 livery. National Express-liveried coaches 1415-1417 were reinstated on 16th July and reallocated to Newbury & District. Reading Buses' contract to operate the 925 (Heathrow Airport - Woking Station) has been cancelled formally by National Express due to the continuing uncertainty around air travel and alternative work on National Express routes 210 (Heathrow Airport - Wolverhampton) and 507 (London - Swansea) has been allocated. Gas-powered Scania/ADL Enviro400 MMCs 701-705 (royal blue 33 livery) remain SORN. All information courtesy of groups.google.com/g/buszone

Kick-off is at 8pm. Reading Buses will reintroduce the full network of F-prefix services from Saturday 14th August, including new routes from south of Reading which presumably replace services that were previously operated by Stagecoach South.

It looks really smart in its new Green Line colours, there are photos of it on the latest Oxford Chiltern Bus Page (scroll down to "Reading Buses"): www.oxford-chiltern-bus-page.co.uk/Weekly%20nr%20167%20080821.htmlThe page also has photos of the loaned Newbury & District MMCs at work in Bournemouth - they seem to be kept on route 1a which operates between Bournemouth, Christchurch and Somerford.

Reading Buses is making a few changes to timetables from Tuesday 31st August.
Lion 4/X4 will have a new timetable on all days of the week.
Emerald 5/6 and purple 17 will revert to their pre-Summer Holiday timetables.
Schools services will return to normal, with the temporary closed 9xx journeys reverting to their normal service numbers (temporary route 80 is discontinued). Bohunt School route 92 will no longer operate due to low usage.
The additional Friday/Saturday late night journeys on claret 21 between midnight and 03.00 are planned to recommence at the beginning of the University term in mid-September.
