I can't see that being any more beneficial than the way it was up to yesterday. As many has pointed out the best way for the message to work effectively is for it to be triggered by the closing of the front doors (not quite sure how it would work on LTs). Alternatively have it as a preset message to be played only when necessary. Tfl seem to have mucked up on some routes implementing this. For whatever reason the 422 announcement now doesn't announce the number while on the B16 we had the weird scenario where it went "B16 to Please Hold on the Bus is about to Move" However it was fine on the 96, 401 and 62 that I rode. My two 422s were fine today.

It is a massive fail. Shows up the sheer waste of money and resources on this crass patronising stupidity. Shows TfL to be completely out of touch with reality, throwing resources at irrelevancies and profound irritants which will have no benefit whatsoever to safety, quite possibly the reverse. Demeans the brand. The proliferation of pointless notices and stuff like this simply creates white noise and diverts attention away from any actually meaningful information. Well Sadickhan also had air quality alert warnings also. There are two, which he wanted to be played when there is high pollution days. So far, they have not used them yet, even when we had the high pollution days.

Well the media have now picked up on the social media "whirl". The BBC, Guardian, Standard and Londonist are all mentioning it. I note that TfL Bus Alerts are now retweeting the positive social media responses they've had from people so TfL are clearly "fighting back" so as I predicted I don't see this message disappearing any time soon. I can't recall the Bus Alerts account ever retweeting other people's messages so this must be an officially endorsed course of action. There appears to be some reports/tweets within the last hour regarding asking how frequently the poles and grab handles are sanitized. Could more people be infected and become ill by holding poles than fall over ? Trouble is, they are NOT cleaned. I would hardly even press a bell push on a bus for the very same reason and would wait until someone else presses it.

Whenever I go to the upper deck, I would extend my arms out to the poles as a safety net if the bus suddenly jolts for whatever reason. I never touch the grab poles on buses, trains, Ungerdround, etc. Coming downstairs is the tricky bit, so am braced to put my hand out on the partition at the bottom of the stairs should emergency breaking ever happen. Think I've only had to do that twice, but it's way better than touching those germ-ridden things. My immune system is weak as it is!

I've heard that announcement about high pollution levels before. It was one of those buses with corrupted iBus announcements - the high pollution message was being played instead of the word "to". So we were treated to "243 there are high pollution levels Wood Green" at every stop

How on earth do you manage to never hold on to or touch a handrail on public transport? You're going to have to hope you never get injured or have wobbly joints if you want to keep that tactic going.

It's now been updated to play directly after the destination info. Still too late on some routes and probably too early on others. The screen now only shows one dot on updated buses. Have been told that yet another update is due this weekend, hopefully a case of 'third time lucky' on the adjustment.

Here's hoping but every time there is a change it just gives people another excuse to talk about how it still doesn't work! Here's what the Commissioner's report has to say about it. In contrast here is what they've done at Vauxhall on the Tube. Obviously a different risk but a slightly more imaginative approach. Interesting that the use of "bus driver voices" for some of the I-Bus announcements was quietly dropped without any mention.

Finally logic prevails and the announcement will be linked to when the doors close rather than how it amateurishly is now. Quite how this 'glitch' wasn't picked up on before gracing the ears of the public with it is beyond me, hardly rocket science.

They've done a similar thing at Baker Street for something, can't remember exactly what now. Maybe something about staying off the track.

When I see people cough up their organs and then immediately hold onto a handrail on public transport, without sanitising their hands, that spurs me on to keep my hands to myself. I'm a complete germophobe; rather get a conk on the head from a bus suddenly stopping than willingly grab on to germs/bacteria.

If this helps, and I'm serious, B&Q do a pack of 100 disposable gloves for £5
