As TfL have licensed the "part work" to build a model Routemaster I thought I'd have a look at how much it costs overall. If you thought the prices the LT Museum charge for visits, special train rides were extortionate then this model RM is even worse.
There are 130 issues - no 1 costs £1.99, no 2 costs 4.99 and nos 3 to 130 cost £8.99. This gives a grand total of £1,157.70! Who in the right mind would ever fork out that money for a model RM? I thought the previous 1:24 scale models were expensive at around £120 but this "build it yourself" version really takes the biscuit. While I don't doubt it is expensive to produce the kits and distribute them I am surprised TfL would put their name to something that is a borderline scam (IMO).

I too had my gasted flabbered! the last two of these 'projects' which have been advertised were the Flying Scotsman and the Aston DB5. I often wonder how many people actually finish these projects bearing in mind the costs? come on Revel lets have a re-run of your kit PLEASE!

I was actually going to give this a go even bought the first issue today but already having second thoughts. By my thinking i can get a sunstar for roughly £150 so twice the size maybe £350- 400 not over £1000

As you say the Sunstar models are very nice and much cheaper.

LMFAO, I guess it had approval of the mayor. Would help cover TfL's deficit. Who in their right mind would pay £9 for a monthly magazine just for some toy with it.

They are relying on the fact that "enthusiasts" tend to get carried away and don't do the basic sums. TfL twigged that long ago - hence the outrageous prices for special trips on old stock, steam on the Met, disused station tours, certain gifts and memorabilia etc. Just look at the ridiculous sums they charge for old luggage racks off the A stock trains.

Standard Hachette business practice - reel them in with a cheap Issue No. 1, then raise the price drastically for the remaining issues. Those on the hook have to keep on buying if they a complete collection/model. I wonder how they'll stretch out Routemaster info over 130 issues - what are they planning, a copypasta of countrybus.org? One has got to wonder if they actually do finish off and release all of the magazines and parts.
Not the biggest fan of Hachette just because French TV is inundated with thousands of adverts for all their latest collections. 'Build your own WWII plane, first issue 1,99€!' 'Collect an obscure French comic strip, first issue 2.99€!' GO AWAY
Also, Hachette sounds similar to 'achete'... as in... 'buy'...

A mere snip at £60 rather than the bargain price of £75! www.ltmuseumshop.co.uk/homeware/luggage-racks#show=1
