Witnessed this today - Deansbrook Road had more buses on it than I've ever seen in the time I've been living here! There was about 8 buses stuck in traffic along Deansbrook earlier*. About 2x each of 114 and 251, as well as 3x 302s and a 186 all on the same stretch of road outside Deansbrook Shops.
* - This is because of the extra traffic diverted from Watling Avenue and also because of an accident on Edgware Way, causing traffic to back up along there all the way to Mill Hill Circus, making Mill Hill congested. Large delays around Edgware in general today because of large amount of traffic too.

Explains all the short workings I have seen on the 186 in the last few hours 186 got battered today - To go with the usual traffic it faces, it had the added extras of a diversion and major traffic to deal with between Mill Hill Circus and Edgware because of an RTA just outside the entrance to Broadfields Estate, on a regular basis it can struggle with rush hour traffic, but today it really did. 113 also looked to be struggling quite a bit. The overall traffic caused Edgware and Mill Hill to become very congested - as a result many routes suffered - 107, 113, 186, 221, 240, 288, 302* are to name a few. * - Was already messed up due to traffic on the southern end of the route - the extra traffic at the northern end did not help at all.

I note that Godstone Road Purley will be shut from the Tesco car park to Dale Road (so under the bridge) by Shell for 6-8 weeks in both directions from 18th May due to water main replacement works.
I wonder how the 407 will get across without a lengthy diversion via Purley Oaks?
412 could terminate and re-start at the back of Purley Station like it did in 2014.
434 diverted via Higher Drive and then Old Lodge Lane and then into Purley (not serving Foxley Hill Road) the 434 diversion boards were up earlier

I think the only feasible diversionary route for the 407 is that lengthy diversion via Purley Oaks, for obvious reasons it cannot use Old Lodge Lane like the 434 will be able to do and I can't see any way it can divert and rejoin the route without missing Kenley completely. They can't possibly divert the 407 via the 412 route towards Riddlesdown to rejoin the line of route at Kenley, the turning at the bottom of St James's Road is way too tight for a bus I think. The top of St James's Road is also a blind junction and is rather dangerous, you can't really see what's coming from a far distance in both directions without good positioning. I tend to take extra precautions or avoid it completely when driving up there myself. On paper you could also divert the 407 via Stoats Nest Road and Hartley Down avoiding the low bridge at Old Lodge Lane, then using Bencombe Road to get to Higher Drive before either using the 434 Hail and Ride Section to rejoin line of route near Kenley Station or turning right on Higher Drive and rejoining line of route in Kenley. However, there are multiple issues here as not only would cars be an issue if using the 434's Hail and Ride section to reach Kenley, but there are plenty of low trees around Old Lodge Lane and the roads surrounding Higher Drive too. One of these would be feasible if the 407 was still single deck. I think the 412 will terminate outside Purley Station

The 60 and 109 are diverted in both directions via Thornton Heath due to a fire on Kilmartin Avenue along London Road.

Route 407 will split into two at Purley Cross. Buses will serve from Sutton to Pyrley and from Godstone Road to Caterham. Sutton to Purley Cross Buses will terminate at stop M Purley Station, then run via Banstead Road, Foxley Lane, Pampisford Road, Christchurch Road and Brighton Road to stand at Purley Cross. Towards Sutton buses run via Brighton Road to Purley Cross then pick up normal line of route. Buses from Caterham to Purley Buses will terminate at Sunnydene Road on Godstone Road. Buses to run light to Purley Station to turn around. Then Godstone Road Approach Road to Purley Station to turn around. Towards Caterham buses will start at Sunnydene Road on Godstone Road. This starts on 26 May and runs until 13 July. Will both sections be numbered 407? When Petersham was closed and the 371 had to split into three routes all three of those routes got route numbers in the 500 so wondering if the same may happen here.

To my knowledge yes the 407 number will only be used.
