After all the praise I’ve heaped on Stagecoach South in recent months, it is very sad to report that the service on the 715 in recent weeks has been shockingly bad. Regular cancellations are now the norm. They've started publishing cancellation tables on Twitter. Some are consecutive journeys on hourly routes creating three hour gaps, and last buses of the day. Here's one example:

Here's one example: There was one of those on the 715 on Friday evening. I was hoping to stay behind at work to do some overdue spring cleaning, but the three hour gap on the 715 said otherwise

A number of 555 journeys are now starting and stopping at BP in Sunbury. It’s been a while since the route officially served BP so it’s been a pleasant surprise to see them turning and standing there over the past few days. The Heathrow bound journeys from BP are terminating at T4 and the destination shows ‘short journey’ or something similar under the destination name.

End of next month, to be pedantic. Hopefully this will in a small way help to make the rest of the Surrey Stagecoach network a little more reliable.

End of next month, to be pedantic. Hopefully this will in a small way help to make the rest of the Surrey Stagecoach network a little more reliable. Oops, my typo! Corrected now, thanks. Although only a couple of buses worth of work lost, Peasmarsh no longer needing Solos just for the 81 (everything else has/needs longer vehicles either due to capacity on the route or through interworking with one that does) will be good news for Barnsbury as the number times both Solos have been out of use and the estate has either not been served - or a long bus is put out and can only serve the main road past it - hasn't been all that rare at times. Driver wise I think the 39/40/690 is self contained with breaks, but the 81 has changeover(s) using limited route 33 so driver wise it'll be a bigger saving. We obviously don't know about the 46 (three vehicles but interworked with other routes at Guildford end) or the three vehicle/driver Sunday 32/479 yet, but with them all showing as Euro VI following retender on the Surrey document linked to by the blog above - and Stagecoach not having much suitable locally to hand that I can think of short of a reshuffle with other divisions - it makes me wonder if those routes are indeed going elsewhere. In a way I hope so, as the number of daily cancellations has just gotten ridiculous of late - particularly hourly routes where sometimes two consecutive trips are scrubbed, and last journeys of the day. Would be a shame to see a network broken though as it makes travelling that bit easier/cheaper when one operator covers such a wide area, but potentially good for the local independents if they end up with additional work out of it.

The evening/Sunday service on the 461 (Kingston - St Peter’s Hospital/Chertsey via Walton) currently operated by Diamond will pass to Falcon from 28th August, meaning the entire service seven days a week will be a Falcon responsibility.

Diamond appear to have made gains in the school market though, with Surrey tenders being won for the 83 and 87 from Collingwood College to Bagshot or Chobham (currently Stagecoach South) and 663 from Esher High School to Walton-on-Thames (currently London United).

The Surrey County Council forthcoming service changes page is reporting that White Bus X30 (Frimley Park Hospital - Camberley - Bagshot - Ascot - Heatherwood Hospital) will be withdrawn from 31 December. The route runs weekday daytimes 'between schools' and is interworked with similar style X94 which also runs between the two hospitals but via Bracknell. White Bus have announced a Saturday service during the week between Christmas and New Year, with no service on their weekday-only routes specifically highlighted, so it looks like the last day will actually be Friday 23 December. That said, the 715 change is on a personal level a big change, and I would imagine will come with a new timetable, as I’d guess driver changes would take place in Cobham, or possibly Ripley. Falcon are a great little operator, and I’m pleased to see them take on the considerable 715 challenge. Green based route branding please, has to be, surely?
