As we are due to relax restrictions next month is there any chance Stagecoach might change any of their Plymouth services, look to expand and in particular implement proposed changes due at start of 2020 as per consultation document? In particular service 101 being routed via Mutley along same route as service 1 from Derriford to city? Also I thought X38 was being axed? I had email from Stagecoach today saying they were looking at improving ticket options as travel patterns change, such as books of day tickets. I think adding 2 or 3 day tickets would be good. Also day ticket should be 24 hours from time you purchase ticket on app as First do. Radical i know but to encourage family back onto buses hiw about add a kid for a quid?!

Stagecoach can't do too much until the Government relaxes the guidance on restricting capacity - there's not much point in special offers when buses are flying past people at stops when they are only one-third full. I think books of day tickets are a good idea as many office workers will want to work from home at least part of the time. They will also be good for people who work part-time. Government is supporting bus operators to maintain previous service levels until the economy recovers so I don't think in the short term any more cuts will be implemented. It will be interested to see what happens in the long-term given the "Bus Back Better" strategy.

Thanks Wirewiper that makes sense? Do we know if plan to re route 101 has been ditched totally or will be implemented once things are back to normal? Seems to me the potential customers on Mannamead Road through Mutley is far greater than the handful along Outland Road? By providing 8 min frequency along this busy corridor (in conjunction with 1) with their lower fares the potential is huge? I would also extend the current £2.20 return area from city to Golden hind up to Derriford but that just my idea..lol

Stagecoach has posted more details of its open-top services for Summer 2021. Hop 122 in Torbay (Babbacombe-Torquay-Paignton Zoo) will recommence on Monday 12th April, this year the route is amended in Goodrington to serve the Devon Bay Holiday Park. Route 95 between Exmouth and Sandy Bay will also recommence on Monday 12th April, this year a second bus will operate on the route and buses will run up to every 30 minutes. New route 21C will commence in "Summer 2021", this will operate hourly and will supplement the existing 21A between Barnstaple and Croyde, doubling frequency and capacity during the Summer season. Route 222 will recommence in "Summer 2021" operating hourly between Teignmouth and Dawlish Warren and will supplement routes 2 and 22. www.stagecoachbus.com/promos-and-offers/south-west/open-top-bus-sightseeing-tours-in-devon A new leaflet featuring all of Stagecoach South West's seasonal open-top routes has been published, the start date for the 21C and 222 is given as Monday 31st May. Just to confirm that the 122 operates half-hourly this year and does not serve Paignton Zoo. Not included in the leaflet is the Dartmouth Park & Ride, which I can confirm is being operated by three part-open-top Volvo B5TL/Wright Eclipse Gemini in Cambridge City Sightseeing livery which are on loan from Stagecoach East.

Taw & Torridge Coaches are taking over Devon County Council supported route 31 (Ilfracombe-Woolacombe) from 1st June, the route is currently operated by Filers Travel. T&T currently operates a number of once-a-week shoppers services but this is their first regular bus route.
In the south of Devon, Tally Ho has deregistered its 606 service (Kingsbridge-Salcombe) from 20th June. It appears there will be changes to the 164 (Totnes-Kingsbridge) from the same date with the route extended to Salcombe, I am awaiting confirmation on this. Devon County Council had planned to use additional Department for Transport funding in 2020 to improve the frequency of the 164 and co-ordinate the timetable with trains at Totnes.
The 54 Bovisand "Beach Bus" commences on Saturday 29th May, this runs [corrected] Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays daily until Sunday 6th June, then again from Saturday 17th July until Sunday 5th September and uplifts to a daily service in school holidays. Last operated by the now-defunct Target Travel in 2019, the service did not operate in 2020. This year it is operated by Plymouth CityBus under contract to Plymouth City Council. It is operated economically with a single vehicle and driver each day (we have a lot of in routes like this in Devon!) and an hour's gap in the timetable in the early afternoon for the driver's break.

I see from 19th July, Filers begin a commercial 302 which shadows the Woolacombe to Ilfracombe section of the 301 (not via Mortehoe) five times a day. Three of these journeys extend beyond Ilfracombe to Coombe Martin, covering gaps in the 301 Barnstaple > Ilfracombe > Coombe Martin route. bustimes.org/services/302-combe-martin-ilfracombe-woolacombe

Trident/Enviro400 19107 (MX07 HMG) has been converted to full open top. It is painted in an adaptation of the new Stagecoach corporate colours and carries a new-style "the wave" branding. It will be used on the hourly 21C between Barnstaple and Croyde Bay which commences on 31st May and supplements the regular 21A during the Holiday Season. Does anyone know if Stagecoach SW plan any flexible ticket options for those only travelling a few days per week from June?

Devon County Council has produced an information page on its Travel Devon website, summarising various bus services that will be operating during the Summer. www.traveldevon.info/bus/latest-news-service-updates/summer-bus-services-2021/The following will be operated with support from Devon County Council: 31 (Ilfracombe - Woolacombe): this route will be operated by Taw & Torridge Coaches from Saturday 29th May (previously Filers Travel). A Sunday service will operate from 30th May until 31st October. 157 (Exmouth-Sidmouth): Sunday service commences on 30th May and operates until 31st October. 271 (Haytor Hoppa): this route will only operate to Haytor and Widecombe-in-the-Moor this year, this will allow bigger buses to be operated. This year, the Saturday short journeys between Newton Abbot and Bovey Tracey on Stagecoach route 39 will be extended to and from Widecombe-in-the Moor as route 271; they will operate as through journeys. ENCTS passes will be accepted this year. The 39/271 through journeys will also operate on Mondays to Fridays from 26th July to 3rd September. 300 (Ilfracombe - Lynmouth): New Summer Sunday service commencing Sunday 30th May, offering up to four return journeys. Operated by Taw and Torridge Coaches. This service will also operate on Mondays to Fridays between 26th July and 3rd September. The following commercial Summer-only services will also operate: 21C (Barnstaple - Croyde Bay): daily open-top service operated by Stagecoach from Saturday 29th May to Sunday 31st October. Supplements route 21A. 95 (Exmouth - Sandy Bay): daily open-top service operated by Stagecoach, this year doubled in frequency to half-hourly. 222 (Teignmouth - Dawlish Warren): daily open-top service operated by Stagecoach, supplements route 22. The page also has links to the timetables for the new First South West leisure services Dartmoor Explorer and Exmoor Coaster. Also starting on 29th May is the Summer operation of route 54 (Plymouth-Bovisand), operated by Plymouth CityBus. This year the driver's break is from 13.55 to 15.00 and unlike previous years the break is taken in the City Centre rather than Bovisand. The route operates daily from 29th May to 6th June and again from 24th July until 5th September.

The timetable will offer improved connections at Totnes Station with Great Western Railway trains to and from Exeter and London Paddington, and the route will be known as the "Primrose Link", recalling the former branch line to Kingsbridge which was known locally as the Primrose Line and which closed in September 1963 (although it ran from South Brent rather than Totnes). Operation of the Bovisand Beach Bus is slightly different this year; it will operate daily during the school half-term week and the Summer Holiday period, but not during the intermediate weekends.

Good to see the 164 service improved, with the Kingsbridge/Salcombe area lacking good connections to the rail network. I wonder if Stagecoach will continue to operate the Sunday service? Since route 3 in the area was converted to SDs, I wondered if it might be worth splitting for better links within South Devon - I doubt many passengers use it for the full length between Dartmouth and Plymouth. Instead, a Dartmouth to Salcombe link via Kingsbridge could be quite useful, connecting the coastal towns in the area - could possibly be branded something like the 'Start Bay' route. In particular, the Dartmouth to Torcross section of the 3 is probably one of the most scenic bus journeys in the UK, and could really do with better branding and promotion, as First previously did with the 'Mayflower Link' 93. However, as mentioned, the direct Totnes link from Salcombe is also welcome - Salcombe is quite popular in the Summer and now makes it much easier to travel there by train.
