New Consultation Mainly aimed at altering pedestrain footpaths But some changes to bus lanes And for those who (like me) believe that key to improving bus use is speeding up journeys it includes following statement " By providing more space for pedestrians and cyclists and prioritising their safety, there would be an expected increase in journey times for general traffic including buses at the busiest times of the day. " Consultation Link Maps 1 and 2 (with unusual layout of stands in Longmead Road) maybe someone familiar with Tooting can say which routes stands in the middle of the road here So if you are a pedestrian - Great But if you are a bus user - Hard Luck especially as it comes with 20mph limits Apparently looking at the pictures, most of the buses in Tooting are Metroline TEs with blue skirts

All these lovely changes to improve space for pedestrians and cyclists and they are going to wonder why there are more cars than ever on our roads. Why TfL, why? 🙄
All these changes make me want to do is trade in my current car (it’s petrol, low emission, ULEZ compliant for you green heads out there) for a Tesla. I love buses, yet TfL’s policies have made me want to avoid them at all costs. .

The splitting of bus stops by Longmead Road is another poor move as it means people wanting Mitcham will no longer grab the 127 as the two stops won't be together and instead be separated by a side road. I'd be very interested to know the signal phasing of the new lights at Longmead Road which potentially will hinder the 127 & 333 in particular given they turn right into Longmead Road.

I see that scheme incorporates two new crazes from Waltham Forest - removal of the white centre line on a main road and the imposition of 20 mph limits. I assume removing the centre line is purposely designed to confuse motorists as to where their lane is thus forcing them to slow down. Can't wait for the first head on collision to happen when people misjduge the position of their vehicle relative to those approaching.
We now have a borough wide 20 mph limit resulting in the 215 I was on this afternoon crawling as if it was broken down rather than moving at a decent pace given there was zero traffic in front of it. More madness.
Just looks like a scheme guaranteed to slow down traffic to an utter crawl at all times. Given there are no segregated cycle lanes in the scheme I expect it will be condemned by the cycling lobby very shortly.

Have been taking driving lessons and 20mph is a crawl

Westminster Bridge is also proposed to have no centre line whenever those works begin which strikes to me as a massive accident waiting to happen The other thing that seems to have been taken from Waltham Forest is the implemention of Copenhagen crossings as some of the side roads in the consultation look like they're getting some put in - another potential dangerous implementation. At this stage, what with stupid borough wide 20mph zones, speed humps, cameras & plentiful of over the top provision for cyclists, they may as well just ban all motor traffic full stop - honestly, none of these councils or officials have an absolute clue how to manage the road network properly.

20mph is a joke! That's all I have got to say. Don't really know the Tooting area well.

I hate Copenhagen kerbs with a passion. Just this week I saw a child nearly run down on one and another youngster nearly run into the cycle lane and then Forest Road as it couldn't see where the road started. Thankfully a yell from its parents prevented an accident. The amount of people who just dozily walk along with no realisation that cyclists or drivers are approaching on / in their vehicles is incredible. I still look all round as if they are a normal road because not all motorists understand that they are supposed to give way whether turning into or out of a side road with such a kerb. I'd rip them all out tomorrow if it was down to me.

All i'm going to say is that it is utterly stupid 20mph is crawling Many peoples commutes are going to take longer or be delayed (mine aswell 😤) The only good thing is the new soithbound stop near wilko (the one before Longmead Road on page 2) and access for pedestrians
