Nottingham City Transport's orange route 35, which operates between the City Centre and Bulwell, is one of the City's longest routes and encompasses much of the City's history going back to the Middle Ages. The route, which has now been relaunched as "History Bus 35", passes through, or near, 12 of Nottingham’s 17 Domesday communities, the site of a Roman Fort and the world’s first known railway built in 1603-4 to carry coal from Strelley to Wollaton. The route is also rich in housing of historical significance, from alms-houses and ‘Garden City’ council estates to a Tudor mansion and gated private estate. The 35 is operated with NCT's impressive new gas-powered Scania N280UD/ADL Enviro400 City buses, and one has been named after local historian Robert Howard, who has been a staunch supporter of bus travel in the City including during his time as a City Councillor. Mr Howard assisted with the publication of a free guide leaflet which outlines the many places of historical interest along the 35 route. The free guide leaflet is available at NCT's Travel Centre in Old Market Square and can also be downloaded from this page: www.nctx.co.uk/historybus35

I tried to get TfL's predecessor interested in Route Maps over thirty years ago, on similar lines. I mocked one up for the 11 route. They'd have been sold by conductors on the many Routemaster routes that then traversed central London and which appeared to be set to do that for many more years. I wasn't trying to make a lot, or any, money on the idea really, I just wanted visitors to London to be properly informed about where they were going/passing. With an acknowledgement, I'd have been happy for them to have produced them, but I guess I never got to speak to/see the right person.
