For those with an interest in UK aviation: The Exeter-based airline Flybe, which posted a profit warning in October, has been bought for £2.2 million by a consortium which includes Virgin Atlantic and Stobart Air. This has almost certainly eliminated any threat that the airline might cease trading. Flybe has a number of UK domestic routes, and serves several destinations from Heathrow, Gatwick and London City airports. www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-46834827

It would mark Virgins second attempt at short haul after the failure of it's Little Red brand. I'm surprised IAG didn't sweep them up.

A former work mate of mine got accepted by flybe to become a Pilot last summer, he's currently away in the south of Spain down in Jerez earning his stripes, so he can fly their Bombardier Dash 8's. I'd imagine he's breathing a sigh of relief.
I'm unaware of Flybe's loading's out of Heathrow, but it'll be interesting to see what Virgin (and Stobart) make of it this time, considering what happened with Little Red last time out.
Talking of the Dash 8's, when I'm driving round Terminal 2 and I see them parked up on the remote stands, they look tiny compared to the likes of the 777, 787 and even the 757!

I gather that the attraction is Flybe's Manchester hub - Virgin are aiming to increase their presence at Manchester and see the Flybe routes as useful feeders. Little Red was based on Heathrow. When BA took over Virgin's Little Red slots at Heathrow, one of the conditions was that they had to allow interlining between their own short-haul and Virgin long-haul flights at Heathrow. Normally the two airlines are bitter rivals and would not cooperate in this way.
