Tower Hamlets has opened a consultation for a possible bus gate (and adjacent side road closures) to be placed in the Wapping High Street area to reduce rat running from The Highway. The proposal is out for consultation but as it stands the bus gate would be operational 24 hours a day 7 days a week, Bus and cycle access only, and there would be No access for motor vehicles, motorbikes or taxis. There is no timescale for implementation. There would be no change to the 100. Image sourced for consultation page

Interesting. I've seen commuter coaches using this street as an alternative to the Highway when its chocca.. Needless to say said coach caused chaos in Wapping High Street.

A lot of the commuter coaches coming down the Highway or A11/A13 seem to be on tight timetables and it seems to be up to the driver on many of them whether to take a 'shortcut' to avoid traffic. I have seen many a coach take 'shortcuts' down roads that really should never see a through coach.
