You seem to be missing some key bus radial trunk routes, eg Edgware Road 16 + 32, Finchley Road 13.

Certainly of old there were flagship or important routes. To put it another way garages had priority routes on which is was more important to get the buses out on.

Today that concept has gone. Bus companies have to get all the buses out on ALL their routes, otherwise they will have contractual penalties. You can still argue that some routes are important due to the places they serve, but I don't think the importance goes beyond that.

I do seem to recollect that elsewhere in this forum that for example the 139 has been described as the 'money route' at BT, so perhaps has some kind of relative importance - I don't know. Others can advise better on things like this than I.

The 68 & 432 are not on the same scale as the others mentioned - the 109 is head & shoulders above everything in South London whilst the 2, 468 & X68 are all fair shouts. The 159 is a debatable one personally, can see both sides on that one

The trouble with talking about 'flagship' routes is that TfL, in their desire to make more money from their bus operations while simultaneously cutting overall bus mileage and refusing for political reasons to raise the basic fare, may get ideas about creating a separate 'premium' bus service using vehicles with a different livery and specifications e.g. wifi, mock or real leather seats etc AT A PREMIUM PRICE. Most major bus companies in Britain now (even First) offer such buses on certain corridors, though I'm not sure about their fare pricing policies. It could be argued that such services should be encouraged, perhaps on the lines route-wise of the X68 and X26, if they were to create new direct links, or maybe just recreate some that existed within recent memory e.g. Ilford to Oxford Street. A 'double fare' of £3 might be charged, say, and wouldn't be intended for short distance trips. They would have to co-exist with 'ordinary' routes like the 607 does with the 427 and 207. I'm NOT advocating this, by the way, but I can envisage a time in the future when I might, given the current direction of travel!
