Staines is outside London. Yes it has a few TfL bus services, but that does not mean that it is part of London. Yes sorry my aplogise some reason thought staines was in London. I am fully aware that just because a TfL bus service services an area it doesn't have to be in greater London, I'm sure most people know that Dorking isn't in London 😉. The odd thing about Kingston is despite it being in London, surrey county hall is located there. Surrey County Council HQ predates the expansion of London into the GLC in 1965, and it's probably easier to stay there in a compact county than get into a row between Guildford, Woking, Farnham etc about which place it should relocate to!

But the 84 goes as far as High Barnet, which is within London. But it's not a TFL route ... I know - I was referring to the point being made that some route numbers aren't used to avoid confusion with non TfL routes that overlap with the TfL border - to which the 84 was mentioned and you said about Potters Bar not being within London, when the route goes as far as High Barnet!

I’m sure it won’t cause much confusion if a new 84 was created in Deep South London.

I’m sure it won’t cause much confusion if a new 84 was created in Deep South London. The only confusion would be where the unfamiliar route goes. I doubt think an 84 in South London would be confused with the 84 in Barnet.

"Greater London Urban Area" is more of a geographical description, whereas I was talking about the administrative boundaries, which aren't quite the same, hence the confusion. It gets even more confusing if you look at postal districts but let's not go there!

Sorry got confused as I read this Taken from Wikipedia Staines is definitely outside of London - the same Wikipedia page mentions it's been part of Surrey since Middlesex was divided up between Greater London, Hertfordshire (Potters Bar) & Sunbury & Staines (Surrey) in 1965. The border between Surrey & Greater London (London Borough of Hounslow) is inbetween Lower Feltham & Ashford

The 216 was going to be one of TFLs cutbacks into the home counties before it was saved like with the 166 and 465. The 167 wasn't saved thou.

I’m sure it won’t cause much confusion if a new 84 was created in Deep South London. Plenty of unused numbers below 500 without having to reuse 84 🙂

The fewer reminders we get now of number 10, the better.

Speaking of number 10. I did find myself on High Street Kensington wondering how on earth I could get to Euston Station. Without changing bus or tube train. I realised this could have been possible with the 10. But now none existant. It mean sitting on Circle Line and Swapping Tube trains at Edgware Road.

Although hopping on the 27 to Warren Street wouldn't have been a bad bet

Although slower, you could have caught the Circle Line direct to Euston Square via Victoria and Liverpool Street.
