Sad news tonight as the tour operator Thomas Cook is set to enter administration, a company that started all the way back in 1842 by operating rail tours from Leicester to cities such as Nottingham,Derby and Birmingham. I go to Leicester a lot and always see Thomas Cook's stature outside the station. My faults go to staff who are set to loose their jobs.
P.S I know there's been talk recently about starting new threads but I don't think this could have been put anywhere else. I hope it's a better outcome for WrightBus this week.

Very bad news indeed, not only affects staff who work for Thomas Cook but also all the Hotels and Bar owners who are going to loose income because of this. There's going to be lots of people who have saved up on a holiday. Even though it was only officially announced in the early hours of the mornings, it has been know that this would for about a week now that's why flight forums would have been talking about it.

Happy for the 500 or so jobs, but kind of disappointing that it's just a brand acquisition, essentially they're counting on customers who may return just for that brand, when in reality it's not the same and is just another website that sells packaged holidays.

Hays Travel brought the stores and took on the staff so really, it's only the brand that was leftover to acquire - the new Thomas Cook only has 50 staff not 500 and has no physical presence on the high street which makes sense at the moment. It's a very bad time though to be launching a holiday business and you make a good point in that the new Thomas Cook isn't the same but they're banking on that famous name drawing people in.

No idea why but the Thomas Cook in Wandsworth Southisde is still fully intact, with lights on and a security guard there each day
