It might not be thought as quite such a good idea by those wishing to get off at the station the train is whizzing past, or those on the platform wishing to board.

If the train doesn't run fast then it will be cancelled. They are not going to run trains around all day 10/20 mins late.
There are plenty of alternative transport options and when they skip stations it's one or two services so hardly a long wait for the next one

They seem to not be skipping and now out of service is the norm, so for the minority, the majority has lost out!

They seem to not be skipping and now out of service is the norm, so for the minority, the majority has lost out! What should be done is to look at the cause of the delays, and deal with those causes so the trains run roughly to time. The wheel has fallen off if either trains are not stopping at stations or trains are cancelled on a regular basis and the cause needs to be treated not the symptoms. So long as it is acceptable to have these 'quick fixes' there will be little incentive to deal with the cause.
People are being left behind on platforms both for cancelled trains and non-stopping trains, and whilst I agree that non-stopping trains are better than no train, in truth neither is acceptable. There can be a long wait, particularly if there is no room on the next train and one cannot get on.
