Just spotted the weather forecast for South London on Election Day Potentially snow www.metcheck.com/WEATHER/dayforecast.asp?zipcode=KT2&locationID=59343&lat=51.4&lon=-0.3&dateFor=12/12/2019Already winter tyres weather (can be used below +20c but much better than summer tyres below +7c), Winter tyres carry the 3PMSF (3 peak mountain, with snowflake symbol) All season tyres are a reasonable comprise in London (should still be soft down to about -5c) Modern summer tyres go very hard below about +5c (and Eco ones more like +10c) so poor in current cold weather. Are we going to see the usual comedy again, of buses being sent out with summer tyres then getting stuck after first snowflake lands, if it snows and anyone pretends it was unforeseen then not really good enough

Forecast changed back to rain... winter tyres rarely of any use in London, even The Beast from the East only gave us 2 weeks of snow at least. Side streets are tricky as councils don't bother to grit them, but generally once on the move you're fine things are looking more bleak for the politicians

What is interesting that braking distances in the wet are much worse below about +10c on summer tyres, but in the dry the crossover point is nearer +4c. Hence the rule of thumb of summer tyres are worse below +7c In these tests he uses best tyres, (not average grade tyres), but shows why using normal summer tyres in rain below +10c is not a great idea. www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/Summer-All-Season-and-Winter-Tyres-Tested-at-0c-15c.htmThere is a common misconception that winter tyres are only for snow, not for cooler temperatures (they work fine upto about +20c)

Not gonna lie I wouldn't feel safe driving bus on where I drive up and down hill if I get more than few inchees of snow, but I don't think we'll see snow until late January or so.
