As of the 24th February customers can no longer get the £5 deposit back from their oyster card, from now on customers will pay a £5 fee for their oyster card and after 12 months the £5 will be added to the PAYG balance. Customers can still get a PAYG balance refund up to £10.

Guess they are trying to push people towards using contactless debit/credit cards.
Cant remember the last time I used a Oyster card.

Not a fan of the contactless cards as so many passengers get on with them and they dont work (payment failed) then they proceed to argue there is money in the bank etc

My understanding is it just checks to see if the card is on a blacklist.

Not a fan of the contactless cards as so many passengers get on with them and they dont work (payment failed) then they proceed to argue there is money in the bank etc I prefer to use my Oyster Card myself but in Glasgow last weekend, I used my contactless card and I found that drivers instructed you to hold down the card on the reader rather than simply just placing it down and letting go
