East Londoners tend to wear masks them much less than in other parts of London, statistically speaking. Everybody wears masks in my borough, Kingston. I don’t live there but have rode on buses and used the train service between there & Wimbledon to ride some RATP stuff over the last month or so and whilst mask wearing was good, it wasn’t 100% as you were claiming but maybe I went on a bad day(s) Nowhere is 100% but it is very good and I live there, 95%+ wear a mask. Maybe a bad day...

Face mask usage has really dropped off in shops. Just been in Tesco and would say the majority are not wearing them.
The same on transport I used the Jubilee Line,District Line and TfL rail yesterday in east London and like shops usage is really dropped since restrictions eased. I think things will only get worse after the 16th August when self isolating rules change. I get the impression people think we have some how defeated the virus.

Not all shops are enforcing them any more. Aldi and Sainsbury's do not but Asda does. When people aren't legally obliged to do something like wear a mask, the majority probably won't wear a mask, though I reckon there's going to be a few who do. I agree that people think we have defeated the virus but probably not everyone thinks that way. I would say the ones who think they've defeated the virus is most prevalent amongst the young. The vaccine bribes like free pizza shows how unwilling the young are wanting to be vaccinated. Vaccination is the only way out of this pandemic but I don't really like the idea of vaccine passports. To an extent it will be useful such as at nightclubs and it will make the vaccinated feel safe in crowded areas like restaurants but I'm glad they're not enforcing this in universities.

"Vaccine bribes"? The young unwilling to be vaccinated? In actual fact 67% of young adults have received their first jab - which is the highest percentage amongst that age group in the world. The reason it is not higher is that the older and more clinically vulnerable were prioritised first and we are only now getting round to the young. Some are desperate to be fully vaccinated so they can see elderly and clinically vulnerable relatives for the first time in 16 months and are frantically searching for walk-in clinics where they can get a vaccine. many are being told they need to wait eight weeks between jabs, yet with the Pfizer vaccine that could be as little as 21 days. If you really want a scandal, the UK has purchased enough vaccine to fully vaccinate its own population four times over. Yet the amount it has made available to poorer nations - where we must expand our efforts if we are to get this world-wide pandemic under control - is just 5million doses. We could be getting vaccines into health workers in these countries so they can continue the fight against possible new variants - there is already a Lambda variant that has emerged in South America and is causing concern.

Good to hear. Also I noticed mask compliance on the tube and DLR is higher than on the buses. This may not be true, just a personal opinion, but I feel that people from less well off areas are less likely to wear a mask, whilst those taking the tube aren't poor because they can afford to take a means of transport that is more expensive than the bus, whereas the poorest will stick to buses.

We are already at the stage where there is no legal obligation to wear a mask, it is currently personal choice. TfL has made it a condition of carriage and their enforcement teams can ask you to leave public transport as I have witnessed personally but there is no legal requirement to wear a mask anymore and there hasn’t been for weeks.

Then why are the government dishing out incentives to get people vaccinated? Vaccination rates amongst the young are lower than in other age groups. Yes you are right that the older people were given their vaccines first, but the young are more likely to think they don't need a vaccination, so those who choose not to be vaccinated will mostly be the young.

It depends on the place I think. I'm sure masks are still required on public transport, and in some shops too, like my local Asda, though some like Sainsbury's say it is a personal choice.

But there is a difference between asking you to wear a mask and it being a legal requirement to do so. The latter has been abolished so anyone who is not exempt is perfectly within the law not wearing a mask in supermarkets or on public transport, it doesn’t make them right but it is their choice. Like I said TfL has made it a condition of carriage and can enforce it on that basis but legally they can no longer force you to wear a mask if not exempt.

I have no idea why the Government is contemplating incentives to get people vaccinated. Perhaps they should spend the money on making sure that every young person that wants to be vaccinated finds services that are easier to access and cuts the eight weeks between jabs to four. Or is it that the firms that are being mentioned in connection with the incentive scheme, are big donors to the Conservative Party?

However they do then not have the right to start imposing legal sanctions on you as it's not illegal. It's a similar case with TfL, it's a condition of carriage which means they can refuse you service for not wearing one but they will be heard pressed to take legal action because the law doesn't state it.

But then most of it is transmitted by people within or breathing near your personal space. For example, people crammed in Trafalgar Square watching football match or riding on a packed Underground train.

Scandal, please? What even makes you think they want them. It is all well and good saying that, but some countries are in the same but where the governments has taken up many vacines but there is a high reluctance to take it and a lot in poorer nations. A lot of it has been down to anti vax people
