A very tough time for airlines at the momemt with South African airlines on the brink of collapse. I do feel sorry for the hard working staff at these companies. With Virgin Australia entering administration Qantas will have a huge monopoly in terms of domestic flights within Australia so expect their prices to go right up. Jetstar is owned by Qantas and Tigerair Australia is owned by Virgin. To be fair South African was on the brink long before Coronavirus and was about to enter another major restructuring project before the virus hit. Oh I'm very aware of that 🙂

Virgin Australia has entered administration: onemileatatime.com/virgin-australia-administration/Richard Branson has also penned an open letter to employees warning them that without any governmental support that Virgin Atlantic will collapse and has now put his island up for collateral for a loan for the Virgin Group. Although it's important to note this is for the Virgin Group and not just Virgin Atlantic. There still seems to be a lot of debate as to whether Virgin, who is owned by a billionaire who doesn't pay UK taxes and has attempted to sue the NHS should get support from the UK taxpayer at a time like this. Tigerair Australia is owned by Virgin. Is it? I thought that was owned by Singapore Airlines. If it was owned by Virgin I'm sure they would have rebranded it by now

Tigerair in singapore merged with Scoot back in 2017.

Anger is now mounting over the failure to equip front-line workers, including bus drivers, with adequate PPE. This comes ten days after the Unite union called for the creation of a PPE "Tsar" to coordinate the procurement, manufacture and supply of PPE to all front-line workers, and the anger is exacerbated by the failure of equipment to arrive from Turkey, which so far has not been explained. Care workers have also been critical about advice on the use of PPE changing not because of science, but because of shortages. The TUC is calling for a public enquiry into what it calls a "grotesque" failure. labourlist.org/2020/04/public-inquiry-into-grotesque-ppe-failure-needed-says-tuc/

I prefer to think of it as the calling-out of a systemic failure that should not be happening during a national emergency. But then I am also politically biased. Thankfully Parliament is back in session so there will be more opposition scrutiny from hereon in.

I also think much of the criticism of Sadiq Khan has been unfair and in some cases quite disgusting, for example I heard somebody in a radio phone in saying that Sadiq Khan had blood on his hands over the death of bus staff.

I think anyone saying he has blood on his hands is going a step too far. Yes, he is responsible but ultimately he is relying on the government information to make his decisions. That being said he could of and should of, as the head of TfL, had staff looking at options to secure PPE for the all frontline staff, even if it just face masks and gloves.

When even doctors and nurses are told to use plastic aprons because full PPE isn't available to them, what chance does the Labour leader of a local authority stand in trying to secure PPE for bus drivers? Unite called ten days ago for the Government to appoint a PPE "Tsar" to coordinate procurement, manufacture and supply of PPE to all front-line workers, and the TUC is now calling for a public inquiry to be held into the shortage of supplies. Lay the failure where it belongs - at the feet of the Government.

Predictable, but Go Ahead and Stagecoach share prices are going down and down.

For some reason, if you have an iPhone and have the news app set up, it circumnavigates the paywall for that particular article for some reason - I've linked the article the other day, was a fascinating read. As for whether it's political bias or not, people use it that phrase way to much anyway as something to excuse the establishment when they've not done their job and there is plenty of evidence already that this government haven't done their job properly.

Sounds like people are calling out the government for systematic failings as a result of their ignorance of the pandemic - and in case I'm accused of political bias, I think Sadiq Khan & Nicola Sturgeon are awful politicians, can't stand either of them but think both have performed far better than the Government - Sturgeon had her wobble with initially refusing to sack the Health Chief, but otherwise has looked far more like a leader than Johnson or anyone in the government besides Sunak & maybe Gove at a push.

Thanks, I'll see if I can get that to work for me. I would love to read that Sunday Times article in full.

There is a worldwide shortage of PPE as has already been mentioned. Maajid Nawaz on LBC last Sunday explained the whole situation very well, the podcast might be worth listening to if anybody hasn't heard it.
