Feel desperately sorry for an old work mate of mine who left to embark on a career with Flybe, finally earning his stripes at the end of summer last year. Hopefully, something turns up for him (and the rest of the Flybe staff) real soon. Sad to see yet another British Airline fall by the wayside. One of my uni friends had his girlfriend start a new job at Liverpool Airport working closely with Flybe on Monday...only for her to lose her job on Thursday because of their collapse which is unfortunate to say the least! I echo your comments about the Flybe staff and I do hope something turns up for them very soon. The collapse of Flybe is a huge shame, I was very much looking forward to it becoming Virgin Connect in particular. It's a massive blow to the UK's economy although I always wondered how they managed to afford what most other airlines of its nature can't - multiple slots at Heathrow Airport which is meant to have one of the most expensive slots in the world although that could have been down to Virgin's ownership of the airline. I really don't know why Virgin couldn't pump more money into it, there could have been huge potential for a possible expansion and to maybe even provide competition to British Airways on European flights. Having said that though, Virgin have already tried and failed this with their Little Red operation a few years ago. I believe their Heathrow slots were never owned by them so they didn't blow as much money into them as another airline would have. I am not sure of the specific arrangement but the slots were owned by IAG.

Zubin I'm really sorry to hear about your friends girlfriend losing her job only a matter of days since she started it. It goes without saying that I hope she and all others who have lost their jobs because of this can quickly find new ones. I was also looking forward to seeing what Virgin Connect could do but it did seem like they was taking a massive gamble one that has clearly not paid the price. I see that FLYbe had planned to move their Heathrow to Newquay flights to Gatwick allowing these slots to be used for European flights such as dusseldorf. The slots had to be surrendered by British Airwasy (IAG) when they brought BMI but the new operators of these slots had to use them for domestic flights only until recently.

British Airways to launch 11 new routes from Southampton Airport starting summer 2021. This is brilliant news for the local economy. However this does mean that all British Airways cityflyer flights from Manchester and Stansted will remain suspended.

I hope Gatwick will be saved as well. Really feel for the communities around the airports.

Bermuda and Orlando are moving to Heathrow, however BA have applied to have slots from LGW to MAN and DOH. The first is likely a slot holder and the second one makes sense given how many flights Qatar Airways have from Heahtow who are also a One World alliance member. The best news for Gatwick though is the arrival of the new Wizz air base.
