www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51746564Some sad news tonight with FLYbe on the brink of collapse, even talk about planes taxing down to the runway and then turning around. Thoughts are with those who loose their jobs because of this.

Was inevitable but nevertheless still sad news. This will not only affect staff working for the airline but also bussiness affected indirectly for example the tourism industry to give just one example. FLYbe was also the main UK operator of the -Dash8 type aircraft meaning pilots will have to be trained on new types which comes as a huge expensive for the other airlines.

Meanwhile Avanti is allowing all Flybe passengers and staff to travel their services for free for today.
EDIT: LNER is doing the exactly the same with all Flybe passengers and staff for today.

LNER and all the First Group franchises are offering free travel to stranded FlyBe passengers and staff today, on proof of booking confirmation, boarding pass, or staff ID.
So that's LNER, Great Western Railway, South Western Railway, Avanti West Coast, Transpennine Express and Hull Trains.

Sad news. They appeared to be a good operator, in terms of customer service, from my two experiences with them. Flew with them from London City to Edinburgh on a propeller plane, and from 'London' Southend to Prague (although this one was delayed by 5 hours, which meant I got about £250 compensation for a £70 flight...).

What a great gesture to offer free train travel for FlyBe staff and passengers. Was really nice reading Twitter and the public response to this.

Feel desperately sorry for an old work mate of mine who left to embark on a career with Flybe, finally earning his stripes at the end of summer last year. Hopefully, something turns up for him (and the rest of the Flybe staff) real soon.
Sad to see yet another British Airline fall by the wayside.

I've used Flybe a few times for domestic flights and found them very good. Loganair has announced that it will take on a number of former Flybe routes over the next few weeks, all longer ones to and from Scotland and Newcastle.
Flights to and from the Channel Islands that were operated in partnership Blue Islands are continuing with that operator. Until they get their old booking system up and running they are charging a flat £50 one-way fare across their network, if you want to fly you simply turn up at the airport and pay there and then!
The London-Newquay route has a Public Service Obligation and Cornwall Council is in negotiations with other airlines regarding taking on this route.

Aurigny has just announced that it will start new routes: Guernsey-Birmingham initially 5x/week from 11th March and Guernsey-Exeter initially 4x/week from 12th March. Tickets go on sale from 7th March.

Hopefully, something turns up for him (and the rest of the Flybe staff) real soon. Sad to see yet another British Airline fall by the wayside. One of my uni friends had his girlfriend start a new job at Liverpool Airport working closely with Flybe on Monday...only for her to lose her job on Thursday because of their collapse which is unfortunate to say the least! I echo your comments about the Flybe staff and I do hope something turns up for them very soon. The collapse of Flybe is a huge shame, I was very much looking forward to it becoming Virgin Connect in particular. It's a massive blow to the UK's economy although I always wondered how they managed to afford what most other airlines of its nature can't - multiple slots at Heathrow Airport which is meant to have one of the most expensive slots in the world although that could have been down to Virgin's ownership of the airline. I really don't know why Virgin couldn't pump more money into it, there could have been huge potential for a possible expansion and to maybe even provide competition to British Airways on European flights. Having said that though, Virgin have already tried and failed this with their Little Red operation a few years ago.
